You stood up, quickly buttoning your pants and buckling your belt as you forcefully took the phone from your friend. He was right, for the mere price of $200.99 you can own a very deadly weapon. Like someone should do something about that, pass a law or two. Although not to say you couldn't with some work find someone with some connections either way. "Fine." You muttered as you took your card from your wallet and reluctantly yet quickly filled your card info into the app. "Hey wait this is a bid." You audibly realized as you looked up at your friend. "I never do bids cause I never win."
"Well you better pray tonight because-" Ethan took the phone back from you and tapped the screen a couple of times before showing you that he set the max bid to 500.
"DUDE YOU ARE ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING ME NOT TO WIN RIGHT NOW! WHERE WERE YOU GOING WITH THAT!?"
"I don't much remember but... I imagine little miss Birkin would be mighty interested in such a toy."
"I mean it's a highly dangerous weapon but you, well. I guess you have a point."
"Always do, now onwards my perverted friend, close those tabs and let's go get something to drink. I can handle that at least."
"You better." You muttered as you remembered to delete your history this time.Being just of age to drink alcohol was a blessing. Instead of just drinking amongst close friends in the privacy of a sweaty room, you could drink amongst strangers in a dingy bar. Pessimism aside it was an experience. You've only been out in such a manner a handful of times but something about strangers, sometimes down on their luck or looking to talk to someone about anything has a certain... vibe. Not that you conversed with these strangers, mostly sitting in the corner listening in on other conversations when you're not with your friends. Rounding the corner of the sidewalk the neon lights came into view. Just about the only brightly lit building in a couple blocks, the rest of the nearby area occupied by apartments or run down yet somehow still functional convenience stores, the bar had practically advertised itself; it acted as a beacon for college students to entrance themselves with like moths to a flame. Being a short walk from the dorms and well, the bartender can nearly pay his own tuition every weekend.
The smell of light sweat and alcohol filled your nose as you and Ethan entered. "Well (Y/N), drinks on me dude." Ethan offered as he turned his back to the barstools and held out his arms as if he had personally built this place brick by brick. You took a seat and rested your elbows on the counter. "Thanks."
"Anytime my man, least I could do after you so generously put up your life savings for the Katana."
"You got that least part right."
It was slightly over your life savings but we won't mention that, your bank is generous with its overdraft. Ethan waved the man behind the counter over and he took your orders. Being a weekday the bar was actually somewhat empty, so your drinks were delivered in nearly no time at all. Taking a sip you purveyed the establishment, seeing just a few couples and groups of friends; and in a lone corner, the queen of the bar that you've found yourself enchanted by. "Hey, I see someone's caught your eye yet again. Talk about lucky huh? Go say hi." Ethan suggested as he pat your back. "Nuh-uh. Alcohol and women is not a mixture I want to take a sip of."
"What's the worst that can happen?"
"I act stupid and blow my metaphorical load all over her."
"I don't know what that means but at least it's metaphorical."
"I'm prone to saying stuff I don't like when I'm drunk, you know this. Remember Jenny?"
"Vaguely, is that the one you threatened with a knife?"
"Yeah, I said something like 'This is real life bitch!' While juggling that switchblade."
"Hey! To be fair, Carson is the one that said women like danger."
"Either way, big no. Don't want security on my ass again."
"Fine. Don't go talk to her." He said as you turned back to your drink.
"HEY MISS BIRKIN!"You froze. This idiot was gonna ruin your chances with the only girl you've talked to in like, 3 months. Chances were low enough already. She's also a school star and Jesus Christ you really have no chance. Having her see you hang out with this dope was a relationship death sentence and-
"Hey (Y/N)!"
"Heyyyyyy Charlotte! I didn't think I'd see you here."
"Well lucky your friend did. I was going to ignore him but I saw you here and, might as well say hi." Ethan mocked an arrow being shot in his heart.
"Can I sit here?" She asked pointing at the seat next to you. "Yeah yeah go ahead." You nervously took a sip. What do you talk about, besides her. You imagine she isn't interested in your favorite nHentai tags. And well, she doesn't play video games. 'Come on make a choice!' You thought to yourself. "Sooo, didn't think you were a drinker. Being a star athlete and all." You chose her.
"I'm not really. This is just plain Coke. I've had a beer here and there but, alcoholism kinda runs in my family."
"Sorry to hear, gotta break that cycle huh."
"Yeah, but at the same time there's something about the ambiance of a bar." This isn't exactly a romantic conversation but maybe that's better. The night passed without much incident, besides having Charlotte Birkin willingly hang out with you. You managed to bullshit your way through the night, talking about nothing in particular, mainly making passing comments about what was shown on the TV. The bar would close in about an hour though and you've gotten nowhere. Wracking your brain for a topic you took another swig of your drink, being on your 7th glass, each one being a bit stronger than the last. Guess the bartender was getting bored and trying to see something fun soon. Not that the "Liquid Courage" was working as you've made nothing notable happen between your small group. That's what you thought at least. Suddenly you realized you were feverishly excited, suddenly coming back to your senses you caught yourself saying "This is real life bitch!" And just as the phrase was uttered, you quickly sat yourself down. Instead of screaming however, Charlotte laughed. "I never would've guessed after your picnic. You and Carson seemed so sweet. Poor Jenny."
"Yeah haha." You weakly chuckled as you realized Ethan was no longer by your side, instead chatting up a girl on the other side of the small building."Last call!" The bartender shouted. "Right here." You raised your hand before he got to pouring. You and Charlotte had continued to chat and as soon as you took a sip of your final glass you regretted it. You let out a groan as you placed your head in your hands. "What's wrong?" Charlotte had asked, you couldn't tell if she was worried or curious. "This is gonna suck tomorrow. And I've got classes."
"Well, maybe I could help you finish." You looked at her, surprised.
"Thought you didn't like to drink."
"I don't want my habits to get too out of hand. I never said I didn't like it."
"Be my guest." You passed the glass to Charlotte, sort of shocked about the whole night. Who knows if this'll ever happen again. Maybe... you should ask. "So uh, y-"
"(Y/N) (Y/N)!!" Ethan shouted as he ran across the bar to you. "Look!"As the phone was shoved in your face you saw what he was so excited about. You won the bidding. Taking nearly all of your 500 in the process. Not sure how to feel about that. "We won!!!"
"I see that."
"Is this a guy thing or can I be in on this whole thing." Charlotte interjected. You took the phone from your friend and showed it to her.
"A beam katana? What are you planning to do with that?"
"I, well I'm not really sure." You admitted as you looked at Ethan who just shrugged. "But it's cool. If you want we can buy some watermelons or something and we can test it out." You offered. Charlotte seemed to think for a bit. "Ok let's do it, when's it coming in?"
"About a week."
"Bar's closing."The three of you were booted onto the streets. Ethan excited, your enthusiasm slowly growing, and Charlotte seemingly deep in thought. You all made your way back to the dorm. Ethan splitting up as you entered the dorms lot. "You want me to walk you home?" You asked the girl who frankly, you're surprised even wanted to walk back to the dorms with you. "If you're offering."
"That's why I asked."
"That means yes." And so you did. Without Ethan, and your chugging of all the water bottles you could carry from the store, you'd seemingly lost your guts. But there was something nice about just walking in the silence next to Charlotte. It wasn't a long walk before you had come to the door of the female dorms.
"You know actually. I had fun." Charlotte admitted. "Me too." Was all you could force out before she stepped inside with a wave. And you were alone under the stars.
