Truthfully, the closest thing Heejin can get to being an actual astronaut is that dumb costume she stuffed in a box with her other antiques left to collect dust somewhere in the closet probably.
Not to say she's incapable of reaching that of course, but rather, a child's dream is something she knows should remain as merely a dream a child can only wish.
And besides, her becoming an astronaut was not for all the science and technology or space rockets. That's too complicated and troublesome for her brain to handle.
Instead, she wanted to reach for the bright shimmers that shined in the night sky, to feel the tips of those star shaped twilights that she sees every night through the roof window, imagining how it's like to be engulfed by pure light in the darkest of places.
Heejin remembers a day when it was chilly all night, their parents were out late and with her little self clutching the toy bunny under the sheets as shadows roamed and the wind whispered. Her brother woke up beside after a loud shrieking pierced throughout the room, got out of his bed into hers and told her how the stars were like the souls of the fallen, those that did amazing things on earth before leaving, their legacies passed on through the phantom night for little kids like her to look up to. That they stayed to look after kids so that they won't be afraid of the dark.
After that day, Heejin wanted to be just like them, brightening the world for everyone.
But instead now, she lies on the star patterned bed sheets, watching out the window where the actual stars resided.
She stares, maybe sooner or later a shooting star would pass by, or a UFO.
Just then, she feels light kisses fluttering on the exposed back of her neck, as the arms around her waist hold on tighter.
"Stop that. It tickles," She giggles.
However, despite her protest, the kisses only continue to grow as they descend down to her shoulders.
"Hyunjin ah."
Heejin turns around, finding a smug smirk plastered onto Hyunjin's face.
"Yes Baby?"
Heejin flushes at the term of endearment. To think despite the past three years she'd would still be shy over a simple nickname.
"Why are you still awake? It's late." Heejin asks.
"I could say the same to you." Hyunjin teases.
"Hyunjin," Heejin rolls her eyes, "go back to sleep, you have work tomorrow."
Hyunjin blows a raspberry at her, quickly yelping in pain when Heejin squeezed at the arm still hanging on her waist.
"Hey, not fair!" Hyunjin cries out like a kid.
"You have work tomorrow too."
"Yes but I don't have to wake up early just to travel an hour to the other side of the country to work do I?"
Hyunjin only huffs, her hands leaving Heejin's side as she turns to face the other side of the bedroom.
How childish, Heejin silently laughs, wondering how she can even still put up with Hyunjin despite her stupid antics. Ah the wonders of love.
"Hyunjin." Heejin pokes at Hyunjin's back.
The girl all but continues to ignore her.
"Hyunnie, come on." Heejin tries again, only to find the same result.
Heejin sighs.
"Okay, I'm sorry okay? Turn around please."
A quiet second passes before the bed ruffles, Hyunjin finally turning around and meeting Heejin's gaze.
"Cuddle?" Heejin extends her arms slightly.
To which Hyunjin gives into, hugging onto her just like earlier on.
Heejin chuckles, rubbing her cheeks against Hyunjin's before leaving a swift peck.
"Love you, goodnight."
"Love you too."
At times like this, Heejin realizes she doesn't really need a space suit or a rocketship to reach the stars.
Instead, they find her in the pits of Hyunjin's arms, swarming them like a huge blanket with the brightest one already in her arms as she drifts off to sleep.
