robin buckley tried not to glare at nancy wheeler as she saw her walk out of the home of viktor creel. everybody else in the group seemed to remain fixated on each little detail, but all robin could think of was nancy wheeler, the girl she once called a priss. she didn't want to believe it, but every little aspect of this girl was enough to get her flustered. the way her nose curved with such perfection, the makeup perfectly placed atop her graceful face, her clothes that still managed to slightly show her form underneath. a girl so dainty and feminine, yet so rugged.
robin took a quick peek around. nobody, not even steve, seemed to realize that nancy had left the house. robin nervously ran her hands through her hair, adjusting her outfit slightly, before following nancy's trail.
surprisingly enough, robin had peeked out the door to see a trail of smoke to her right. there she was, the perfect girl, smoking a cigarette. nancy could clearly see robin curiously sticking her head through the door, but tried to keep her face and posture the same. awkwardly, robin stepped out and closed the door, spreading dust around them. robin slowly inched next to nancy.
after a few moments of silence, robin looks over to her. "never viewed nancy wheeler as the smoking type," she manages to spit out in a raspy voice. nancy puts her arm down to her side. "only on occasion."
"what's the special occasion?" robin asks. nancy sighs. "it's just nervewracking." robin turns her head slightly in confusion, "vecna?"
nancy nods. they stand in silence for a little longer, before robin breaks the quiet once more. "could i get one? a cigarette, i mean." nancy looks at her with slight curiosity. "have you smoked before?"
obviously robin hadn't. she had a mom who smoked all too much. so much so that even the simple smell of smoke gives robin the slightest bit of nostalgia. robin had sworn from a young age that she would never turn out like that. her mother was never that close to robin. she either spent her days working away at whatever job she had, before returning back to watch tv and indulge in one of her habits. even if robin did want to keep the cycle going, she wasn't willing to go out searching for a pack. although her mother wouldn't notice, robin found it too risky to attempt stealing one away.
however, nancy's eyes had their own way of burning into robin's heart. priss. why did i ever think that? she's more badass then i could ever dream of being. robin had viewed smoking as "badass" when others did it, but forever resented the idea of her or her mother smoking.
god she's staring at me. "yeah, my mom did it all the time when i was younger. occasionally i would steal some from her packs. done it for a couple years now.""you've got the voice of a smoker," nancy remarked. robin pretended to look annoyed, but found some sort of satisfaction out of nancy wheeler teasing her.
nancy pulled out a pack, nearly empty, and a lighter. she held out the package to robin, giving it a little shake for emphasis. robin picked one, and took the lighter from nancy, the pace of her heart increasing as she felt their hands graze.
robin took a moment to stare at the two foreign objects in front of her. she was way too old to be questioning how to use a lighter and a cigarette. robin grasped the lighter with her right hand, putting her thumb on top of the rough wheel.
nancy continued puffing her cigarette, before taking a break to watch robin struggle to light a small flame. robin could feel nancy's calculating stare onto her hands. nancy grinned softly. "do i have to do it for you?"
robin looked at her, taking a break. the wheel had made an imprint of robin's thumb, burning into her skin. robin stumbled on her words slightly, "yeah, probably."
nancy snickered, putting her cigarette in between her lips to grab the lighter and cigarette she had given robin. after a couple of flicks, she was able to light it. robin gave her a slight nod and took the cigarette nancy had held between her pointer and middle finger.
robin didn't want to look like she was stalling so she went ahead and put the cigarette in her mouth, inhaling as hard as she could.
unsurprisingly, robin practically spit the cigarette out into her hands, attempting to hack out all of the smoke she had just inhaled. tears began to form in robin's eyes, "jesus christ! who the hell does this for fun?"
nancy stared at robin for a but before bursting into laughter. the sound of her laugh made robin smile, while she was bent over with her hands on her thighs. robin wasn't sure if nancy was capable of showing that much optimism. her laughter was then interrupted by robin's giggles. their laughs mashed together in a messy harmony, occasionally being interrupted by a snort or squeal.
nancy's laugh started trailing off, "i should've known something was off. for the record, i never saw you as the smoking type either," nancy uttered, still chuckling slightly.
robin fixed her posture. "turns out you were right," she said in a giggle. the girls calm themselves down. "you can just throw it on the ground. i have some more in my room," nancy reassured. robin obeyed, watching as her shoes crushed the cigarette into ash.
nancy continued smoking through her smile. while robin took a moment to admire her current situation. it was peaceful in a way, although it was outside of a murder house.
"hey rob, you didn't need to lie about smoking," nancy said. robin snickered, "rob?" nancy put her hand on her face "god sorry, just thought it would be more comfortable to give you a nickname. completely forgot rob was a boys name."
"no, no, it's not that, i promise!" robin assured, "i was just a little taken back, that's all." nancy forced a tight smirk and turned away.
"but, i don't know, i guess i just thought it would seem cooler if i had smoked before. y'know in all of those movies, they make smoking look so cool, even though all the people i knew who smoked weren't all that cool." robin admitted, "well except for you, you're cool! i didn't mean to say you weren't, i promise."
nancy laughed, "it's alright. i think you're pretty cool too, rob."
