I almost ran through the library when we finally got there, Ben trailing behind with his mates. I could hear Harry laugh at me or about me. I didn't really care which one it was at this point. Slipping past children, elderly, and other students from Higgs and Truham I found my way to the Young Adult Literature section. I knew exactly how to get there. Straight ahead, left at the second bookcase before making an immediate sharp right. I reached out for the book, black with metallic orange lettering, just seconds before my fingers touched it a boy my age pulled it out from the other side. I let out a soft huff and pouted. "Naw. Damnit."
The boy on the other side looked up, our blue eyes meeting. "Oh my god!!!" He exclaimed before walking around the shelve and facing me. "Oh my god, you read SHADOW AND BONE?! Quick! Would you date Aleksander or Mal?" My face broke into a wide grin as I answered quickly. "Honestly, Aleksander. I know he is the enemy but I love my emotionally unavailable villains. Plus, you have to have some faith in love. I be..." The boy clapped. "I believe in Romance too!" I don't know how he read my mind but all I could do was smile.
"It is so nice to meet you, Book Thief." The boy smiled back and shook the hand I held out gladly. "Isaac Henderson."
"Henderson!" She made a trumpet movement with her hands, referencing her favorite show. Stranger Things was the perfect background noise to drown the noise of her fighting parents out. "I knew I recognized you, I think my brother mentioned you once or twice." She turned and nodded her head at Ben who was sitting across the room with his mates, doing the usual, chucking stuff at people. "Oh, you are a Hope." Isaac's bright smile had faded. "Sorry, not really a huge.. Ben Fan?" I suggested, reading his face, and adding some jazz hands. Isaac gave an awkward smile, I could see he was doing his best not to upset me. "Not really, sorry. Just some things between friend groups. You don't have to like everyone at school, I guess." I nodded in agreement. "Believe me. If that wasn't the case I would have a lot more friends of my own and a lot less of my brothers." Isaac chuckled. "Me and my friends are watching the Netflix adaptation, I'll ask if you can join. You have Insta right?"
I got my phone and nodded. "Yeah!" Within seconds we had added one another and sent some DMS. Chatting a little while longer before saying goodbye, I almost felt sad when the moment ended. It felt nice, having someone around with the same interests as me.
When I got to my brother's table he freed a place for me to sit. Harry was the first to speak up. "Out of all people you pick him to be friends with? Isaac Henderson? The nerd who always brings a book to the party. Good luck with Social Suicide." I rolled my eyes chucking a pen at the boy's face. "If I want to commit Social Suicide I'll just post a picture with you." I flipped him off and opened my book, ready to go down a different road to distraction.
