A/N: Just a little sad oneshot I thought of while I was reading another fanfic. It's not very good but hey, I tried. Enjoy.

~Konohagakure Hospital~

The beeping of the heart monitor is the loudest sound in the private hospital room. Naruto stands at the foot of the bed his family is clustered around, gazing forlornly at the figure resting there. His five kids and wife looking at the once vibrant woman.

The woman who'd raised him all his life looked so...out of it.

He'd never seen the strongest woman (besides his wife) he knew in such a fragile condition. He felt so damn guilty his mother was this way.

Temari stood by his side holding his hand looking at the woman who'd been like a mother to her the last few years in sadness.

His two youngest (Karura & Mito, 3) who were twins sat in their grandmother's lap giggling with her about something that had happened not to long ago but the noise was broken by a series of coughs coming from Kushina.

When she recovers, she beckons to Temari over with a finger, and the younger woman leans over so Kushina can whisper something in her ear.

Naruto is too far away to hear what's being said, but the monologue is fairly long, and when it ends in another fit of coughing, Temari pulls away with tears threatening to fall out of Suna woman's eyes. She blinks and wipes them away.

"Say goodbye, kids," she says, and her husband senses a slight hitch in her voice, "Baa-Chan wants to talk to your father in private."

"I love you Baa-Chan..." Kore (Kaori, 16) hugged her grandmother remembering all the good times they had together. Especially when Kushina helped her become a Jonin and the young lady she is today.

She'd grown into such a beautiful young woman, just like her mother and both her grandmothers. She'd be a heartbreaker among the male population that was for sure.

"Bye, bye baa-chan!" obliges both of the twins, throwing their arms around the older woman's neck kissing her cheek.

Kushina held the children to her tightly for a long moment, mouth moving in quiet words of wisdom before letting go. "Love you, too!" Kaito (6) hefted himself up to the bed to give his Baachan a hug too.

Arashi (13) went to pick Kaito up underneath her arms, but Kushina stoped him, whispers something in his ear, pulls back to see him nod slowly, and then kisses him on the forehead.

He mumbles a quiet 'love you, too,baa-chan' as he grabs his sisters from the bed, allowing Kushina to turn her attention to her other side, where Kore stood next to her mother.

Kushina noticed the usual spark in her grandchildren's attitude was gone. Maybe, it was because they knew she was transitioning. She didn't want the youngest two to go through such heartbreak.

The elder goes through all the same motions with every child, eliciting all 'love you, too, baa-chan' from the boy before the family departs, Temari glancing back one last time as she shuffled the kids out the door leaving just mother and son alone.

Naruto takes a seat in the chair to Kushina's left. "You've done a good job at raising your family Sochi." Kushina tells him.

Then she smirks. "Considering how much your alike to your father and I, I'm not all that surprised." He tries to smile in response to the jibe, but the expression is weak and strained.

"Mom, you know it's my fault you're-"

"Not. Another. Word. Naruto Uzumaki- Namikaze." Kushina glared harshly at her son before her eyes softened up a bit.
