CHAPTER ONE ━━ dizzy

love is just another leap of faith, but I jump right in

I've been going to Susannah's beach house every summer since i met Jeremiah Fisher in the summer between the first and second grade. The summer house had been our special place. The Fishers and the Conklin's had been my family since that very summer. Since we met our mothers had been inseparable, Susannah and Laurel had always felt like family.

The drive down to Cousins Beach had always been my favorite view, the sea, the beach, Jimmy's Crab Shack, the Putt Putt, and all the surf shops. Mostly the anticipation of knowing I'll soon be reunited with the Fishers and the Conklins, especially Jeremiah. For as long as I can remember Jeremiah Fisher has been the only boy I've ever loved.

"Daisy". I heard my mother call faintly over the sound of the music playing in my headphones. "what" I said removing my headphones. "I want this summer to be different for you, no staying out to late, or going off by yourself, and remember to clean up after yourself". "mhm" I responded not even sure what she had said I was too busy looking out at the beach. I could feel myself start to liven up as I realized how close we were to the summer house.

When we pulled up to the house, Jeremiah, Conrad, Steven, and Belly were talking in the front. I assumed Susannah and Laurel had been inside. I leaned over my mom much to her dissatisfaction and honked the horn twice before opening my door and running to the group.

"Connie!" I had screamed as I went over to hug him. "Connie you got taller if that's possible"

"Dizzy, your just short" he responded with that I smacked his chest. And ran to Steven, I had jumped onto his back almost toppling him over but he had caught his balance. "of course it's you Dizzy", he said rolling his eyes as he set me down on my feet. With that I ran over to Belly, I could feel a pair of eyes on me watching my every move.

"Bells, oh my god, your so pretty"

"Says you, look at you" Belly replied twirling me around as we laughed.

"Hey, guys, guys. I mean, I don't know about you but I, well I think it's time for a... Belly Flop" Steven and Jeremiah had said. Before we all started chasing Belly through the yard, the boys managed to grab her in no time. Conrad supporting her back and Jere and Steven holding her legs. We all counted down preparing to throw Belly in pool, "How's the water?" Jere had called down to Belly. "Guys I hurt my ankle", I could tell what Belly was planning to do as i urged Conrad to help her out, the second she grabbed his hand she pulled him down making a bigger splash than she had. That left me Steven and Jeremiah laughing on the side before the two had looked at each other and than looked at me. I had tried to make a run for it before Jere had grabbed my waist and jumped in holding me flush against his chest.

By now Belly and Conrad had gotten out leaving just me in the pool with Jere. "Well that's what happens when I don't get a hello", Jere had said. And when I looked him in the eyes I swear to you I could list a million reasons as to why my heart had always belonged to him. But deep down I knew his had belonged to Belly.

The second I had gotten up to my room I jumped on my bed laid out fully. Instead of unpacking my stuff and organizing it, I had decided on taking a nap. "Dizzy" Jeremiah had called while knocking on her door, with no response he had decided to just open the door. To his surprise he found a sleeping Daisy curled up on her bed. He threw a light blanket on her and kissed her forehead "I missed you flower" he whispered while leaving the room, closing the door on his way out.

"Steven, I swear to God, If you look at that phone one more time I'm putting it in the screening basket." Laurel had said to mine and Belly's amusement. "It's just, we want to see your beautiful faces." Susannah had said in light agreement. "Steven", Jere had said before grabbing his phone and shooting it into the chair.

"Okay, Okay we get it you've been working out."

"Ooh, your just jealous cause Jere has a better body than you." Belly had said making us all laugh. "Uh, no, actually, it's all about the lean look now."

"Come on Belly, girls like guys who can't even carry them on their back". I had said putting Belly and I in a laughing fit. We all continued to talk throughout dinner before Susannah had jumped out of her seat.

"Belly, Dizzy, I almost forgot, I have a surprise for you" she said handing us both envelopes. "I wrangled the girls invitations to be debutantes."

"Is that the thing where girls wear white dresses and curtsey", "its that thing that was in Gilmore Girls, Belly."

"It's when a girl comes of age and is presented to society" Susannah had informed us.

"Susannah have you met the girls" my mom asked laughing. "I can't believe your still holding onto this archaic dream" Laurel said while grabbing another bottle.

"When a girl has a coming out tis a formal recognition she's reach maturity."

"I'm sorry mature. Belly and Dizzy? Belly a couple months ago you had a cat funeral. you made us all wear black" Steven said finding this whole situation hilarious. "Shut up, Steven. I saw you crying in your room." Belly had responded annoyed.

"And Dizzy how many schools has it been now" Steven continued. "19" I responded sheepishly. "I can't even keep track anymore" Mom responded, with that I stuck my tongue at her as we all laughed.

"It's not Belly's thing either, she's our feral little alley cat". Laurel said.

"I'll think about it" me and Belly said at the same time.
