The bell rang, which meant it was finally time for lunch. A sigh escaped my lips as I got out of my seat, pushed my notebook into my bag and threw it over my shoulder. English class was always a bit of a drag, but it was also because I was looking forward to graduating. Finally, I would be away from high school and never look back.

I walked towards my locker and opened it. While I began to switch my notebook out for my afternoon classes I heard a familiar voice pop up beside me as she leaned against the locker.

"Okay, so I totally made a fool of myself!" Robin rubbed her face with her hands.

"I'm sure it's not that bad." I said while I grabbed my sandwich.

"Oh, trust me. I was going to speak with her, but I ended up freezing and...and...my face went red like a tomato that has been left out in the sun for three days!" A small giggle formed in the back of my throat.

"Robin, that's okay. Sometimes that happens and you're going to be fine." I tried to tell her as I shut my locker and turned to face her.

"No, it's not Amrita! I want to have that romantic love story, but I can't if I just keep getting scared, but I need to be scared because who knows who's listening and...oh my God."

"Hey, I know that's what you want and trust me, you deserve it the most. I just don't know how to give that to you." I explained to her.

"I know, trust me. I know you would." I placed my hand on her shoulder and looked into her eyes as I said,

"You're going to get your happy ending Robin. I know it."

"Thanks friend." She said while she put her hand on my shoulder. I nodded my head and brought my hand back to my side,

"So, are we having lunch?" I asked her.

"Oh yea, I can't. We have a band practice this lunch because of the game tonight."

"Robin!"

"Sorry! I'll make it up to you, promise." She held out her pinky and I looked at it before looking at her again. With a sigh, I wrapped my pinky around hers.

"Okay, have fun." She gave me a quick hug and left to go to her band practice. I walked towards the cafeteria and opened up the doors. When I walked into the cafeteria I looked around for some familiar faces, but my eyes caught onto a scene that was happening in the middle of the room. Eddie had Dustin and Mike by the shoulders before he quickly pushed them forward.

I walked towards them and saw Dustin and Mike begin running out of the cafeteria. With a shrug of my shoulders, I continued walking towards Eddie, who was still standing there with a grin on his face. Before I could say anything, he turned his head and looked right at me.

"Oh, hey Amrita!"

"Hey Eddie, what was that?" I referenced towards Mike and Dustin.

"They're going to get someone for our adventure this evening." He answered. With a nod of my head, I drawled out,

"Okay."

"Have you come to sit with us for lunch?" He brought his hand out behind him and I looked at the table. There were three boys sitting there that I had never spoken to. They were all wearing Hellfire t-shirts, so I assumed that they were all a part of the same D&D club. I would've sat down with them, but they were all giving me strange looks.

"Uh, no it's okay. I can go sit somewhere else." I said.

"No no! Please, come sit with us. We have more than enough room." Eddie smiled at me. I sucked my cheeks in, trying to stop myself from blushing or smiling due to my nerves. After letting them go I said,

"Okay, sure." With that, Eddie quickly clapped his hands together and we walked to the table. He pulled out the chair next to the boy with the really round face and pursed lips.

"For you."

"Oh wow, okay. Thank you." I awkwardly thanked Eddie as I took my seat, and he went to sit back at the head of the table. There was an awkward air around the table as I placed my sandwich in front of me. "So, my name is Amrita." I introduced myself to the table.

"I'm Jeff." The boy in front of me spoke and I was grateful that he did. I nodded my head and smiled at him.

"I'm Gareth." His friend to his left said and I gave him the same smile. However, I felt someone staring at me intensely, so I looked to my right to see the guy I was sitting next to wasn't saying anything.

"Have you ever spoken to a girl before?" I asked him.

"What? Of course I have!" He was shocked at my question.

"Okay, okay I'm sorry! You're just looking at me like you never have, so I thought I'd ask." I quickly defended myself.

"You also think we're freaks!" He accused me of something that never crossed my mind once. I thought they were a bit socially awkward, but I would never call them freaks.

"What? No! Don't go saying things that aren't true." I scolded him. "Damn, I'm trying to make conversation, but you're the one staring at me like I'm the freak."

"She is right." My gaze drifted to Eddie as he spoke, "If you were a bit more welcoming, then she wouldn't have asked you that question."

"But, have you ever spoken to a girl before?" Jeff joked and Gareth snickered beside him.

"Well, if he hasn't, then he has now." I said as I grabbed my sandwich and took a bite out of it.

"Aren't you on the soccer team?" Gareth asked me. I nodded my head.

"Why not go and sit with them? Aren't you technically, a jock?" Jeff asked me.

"I don't like to associate myself with them to be honest. I play soccer, win some games, and then I leave." I took another bite out of my sandwich.

"Why not hang out with them though? You do know that you'll get a bad rep sitting with us, right?" Gareth asked.

"Yea, you might not think we're freaks, but the rest of them think we are." The boy next to me said. I shrugged my shoulders.

"Listen, I don't like to spend time with them. I haven't like to spend time with them since freshman year, so let's just leave it at that. Besides," I turned to look at the boy next to me "some of them think I'm a bit of a freak as well." Then, I turned my head and continued to eat my sandwich. I turned feel someone looking directly at me, so I looked over and saw Eddie giving me soft eyes with a soft smile.

From his facial expression, I bet he knew what happened in freshman year. Most people did because it was the talk of the school, but I was done talking about it.

"Well, you're always welcomed here, Amrita! We will happily welcome you with opened arms." He said to me as his smile grew. I couldn't help, but to smile back at him because, for some strange reason, I believed him.
