Dean couldn't believe Cas was here. After everything, it seemed like more than a coincidence. They locked eyes and stared for moment, stunned that they found each other. Charlie looked at Dean and laughed.

"Close your mouth. You're going to let a fly in." Dean quickly closed his mouth, embarrassed. Charlie followed his gaze and saw who he was staring at. "Cas? He's a hottie isn't he? Although, he's not my type." Dean blushed furiously. "No, no. That's not why I was-I mean-I know him!" he finished hotly. Charlie smirked. "Okay then. You know, he's one of my best friends, if you want me to hook you up." Dean turned bright red again. "No I'm not...like that." Then he noticed that he was still standing up in the front of the class so everyone could hear his conversation, no matter how quiet they said it.

"Oh, um, hey. I'm Dean Winchester." Dean said awkwardly. Some people snickered and snorted. Dean looked around for an empty seat. Ironically, there was one right next to Cas. He walked over to the seat and sat down. Cas glanced over and looked Dean up and down.

"Hi." was all he said. Dean didn't know what to say after all those years. "Uh, hey." Dean looked at Cas again. Cas was so different in so many ways but he was still Cas. His eyes still so blue, his hair still so black. But he had piercings on his lip, eyebrows, and ears. Tattoos ran up both of his arms and neck.

"So, how have you been?" Dean asked. Cas didn't even look at him. "Just fine." Eesh. He was upset about middle school. Nothing was Dean's fault. They just drifted apart. Then Cas glanced back at him and opened his mouth like he wanted to say something. But he looked at Dean's necklace and turned white. "Cas? What's wrong?" Dean asked, concerned for his former friend.

(Cas's POV)

Dean was his soulmate. It had always been him. Cas averted his eyes quickly. "Cas? What's wrong?" Dean asked. Cas hesitated. "Nothing. I'm fine." He lied. Dean knew when Cas was lying. They used to be best friends. But Dean didn't push it.

How could his soulmate be Dean? Yeah, Cas was bisexual but Dean? Cas didn't think Dean was. They were best friends, it would be way too awkward anyway. Cas was silent the whole class and so was Dean. When the bell rang signaling freedom from Mr. Crowley. Cas left the room right away without another word to Dean, even though he heard him yell, "Cas, wait up!" But Charlie Bradbury, his best friend, caught up to him.

"What happened between you two?" she asked abruptly. "I assume you mean Dean? Nothing really. We used to be best friends, but we drifted apart in middle school. That's it, really." Cas rushed out. Charlie smiled.

"Are you sure you guys don't have any...um, sexual tension?" Cas's jaw dropped. "What? No! What the hell?" Charlie giggled. "It's just the way that he looked at you when he first saw you. He looked, uh, happy I guess." His cheeks flushed. "This conversation is over."

The rest of the day was pretty boring. Cas went through his daily routine, except with Dean in every one of his classes. At least he didn't have to sit next to him again. The final bell rang and Cas hopped off his seat and headed out the door towards Gabe's truck. He leaned against the car and popped a cigarette in his mouth.

"That's against school rules you know." Cas turned around and spotted Dean. "What do you want?" he asked taking the cig out. Dean made his way towards Cas. "Ouch. Is that anyway to treat your best friend?" Cas rolled his eyes. "You're not my best friend anymore." Then Dean was right next to him. "Why do you hate me?" Dean asked, this time less cocky and more hurt and sad. Cas turned so he was facing him.

"Dean I don't hate you. It's just that we stopped being friends in middle school and now you're here. I mean, we were supposed to be friends forever, remember?" Cas said softly. Dean surprised Cas by pulling him into a hug. "I know. I'm so sorry." Cas held onto Dean tightly. He smelled like fresh laundry and cheap cologne. Cas could feel Dean's necklace pressing into his chest and his heart dropped. He could never be friends with Dean. They were soulmates, it would never work.

"Woah, can I join?" Cas heard a voice. He broke away. It was only Gabe, but he had a friend with him. "Sammy?" asked Cas. Sam laughed and hugged Cas while Dean hugged Gabe. It all felt like a big family reunion. "How did you guys find each other? Sam, aren't you a year younger than me?" Cas wondered. "Yeah but he's a freak so he goes to an older class for math." Said Gabe playfully. Sam elbowed him in the ribs and put his arm around Sam's shoulder in a friendly manner, but Cas could tell there was something going on with those two.

"Well, it was nice to catch up, but we really got to get going. Bobby's going to get worried." Dean explained. "Wait, Bobby? Where's your dad?" asked Gabe. Sam looked down. "He's not at home right now, but he will be in about a week." Sam said. "Oh." Cas said. " I'm glad he's gone. Anyways, we will see you tomorrow. " Dean said, trying to change the subject.

"And Cas," Dean said quietly so only Cas could hear. "I think you deserve an explanation for middle school. Saturday at the Roadhouse? Does seven work for you?" Cas nodded. Dean smiled and then they left the parking lot in their 1967 Chevy Impala.
