It all starts here. This is my time to prove that I am worthy to be welcomed back into the life I missed out for 16 years of my life. My mother, brother and father are depending on me. Reuniting my family is now in my hands. It all depends on me.
I will face all the challenges and "test" grandfather throws at me. I will never give up until we are one happy family again. So bring it on grandfather. I am ready. For as I stand here...
"Where am I anyway" I said out loud
"Don't know" Remy replied "this is where grandfather was heading. It says so here in his e-mail"
"He e-mailed you?!" I replied in fear. He may already know that I am not the grandson he is with right now.
"He e-mails all his employees on his whereabouts" Remy replied
"What a relief" I said
"What? Why?" Remy asked
"Never mind" I quickly replied "Where are we anyway?"
"Didn't I just say I don't know" Remy replied
"Why here?" I asked myself
It was a ghost town. No person walking around. Even just a hint of human presence is absent. If you look closer, It seems as though no one lives in those houses, not for a while at least. It was a neighborhood without neighbors. No one was there to call these houses a home. Not one person, as far as I can see. Maybe they were hiding, maybe they moved away or grandfather drove them away. But I can't focus on that right now. Right now I have to focus on finding grandfather or Jake to make the switch and pass this test.
"Let's take a look around town" I said to Remy "If this is a town"
"Lead the way... Sir" Remy playfully replied
"That's getting annoying" I replied
"What's annoying? Sir" Again he kept teasing
"We're wasting time... Cuz" I replied teasing him back
"Don't call me that" Remy's tone changed, deeper and more serious
I tried to tease again "Don't call you what? Cu.."
"Let's go!" Remy interrupted
I didn't say another word. I just started walking. First this town, now Remy with his secret and confusing family status. So many things going on in my life and I don't have a minute to figure them out. I just had to focus on the task at hand. I don't need to worry about these things right now. I have to focus on the here and now. Where ever "here" is.
From house to house we entered. Nothing was there, or rather No one was there. all that greeted us when we entered each house was broken furniture, collapsed roofs and dust. Lots and lots of dust.
Time was running out. It was almost noon. And more importantly, lunch time. I was getting hungry. And the fact that I didn't eat anything at all before I left the mansion. Great now I'm lost, confused and hungry.
"Say Remy" I said while tapping Remy at the back "You got any food on you. I'm starving"
"Here" Remy said while handing me a piece of bread
"Why do you have bread on you?" I asked
"Why wouldn't I?" Remy replied
"Ok..." I didn't continue the conversation
"Do you know where we are" Remy asked
"I was about to ask you the same thing" I replied "Don't you have a GPS or whatever gadget on you or something?"
"I left it in the car" Remy replied, without any fear nor embarrasment in his voice
"You have got to be kidding me" I replied "Let's go back to the car"
We hurried back. We already spent too much time walking around town. I mean we wasted too much time walking around town. When we reached the car. Remy went straight to the glove compartment. He took out a small device. He started tapping on it.
"Ok, in a few minutes we'll know excactly where we are" Remy said with huge amounts of confidence
Scanning.. Scanning.. Scanning.. Scanning..
"Area Unknown" The machine replied
"What!?" Both me and Remy exclaimed
"Piece of junk!" Remy exclaimed at the machine. He then threw it on the ground "What are we gonna do now?"
"I'm not paying for that" I said, trying to break the tension. But i had a hint of fear when I said that. Because I know that thing was expensive.
"Its shock proof" Remy replied. Then he picked up the device again. "See, still fuctional"
"Thats a relief" I said "but where on Earth are we!?"
Remy didn't reply
"And why can't that thing tell us where we are right now!?" I exclaimed, screaming on top of my lungs. I didn't care no one was here anyway.
"Because that would be cheating" Grandfather replied
"Grandfather!?!?!?!" I thought to myself.
I was so shocked that my whole body froze. I didn't know what to do. This was really a nightmare.
Grandfather moved closer, Jake accompanied him. He had his head down. It was shame and fear that was keeping him so passive and obidient. Grandfather approached me. I was scared to look him in the eye. I don't know what he'd do. Considering we were in the middle of no where. And he could do whatever he wanted with me. And no one can do anything about it. Not Jake not even Remy.
"Cheat or not, You won't pass anyway. You're late to begin with. And you have the guts to fool me." Grandfather said, with great disappointment and anger "Let's go, Remy start the car"
We all went in the car. Remy was driving slower than earlier. Silence filled the interior of the car. Not even the radio was on.
"Oh I forgot" Grandfather broke the silence.
I was gaining hope, maybe this was a second chance
"Remy pack your things when you get home, Your fired" grandfather said "How dare you use one of my car without permission"
I was shocked. I couldn't let this happen. I gathered all the courage I have in me.
"Wait!" I exclaimed
"What is it?" Grandfather ask with irritation in his voice
"Let's go back" I said "I'll show you that I can pass your stupid test"
"Pass or fail that test, I still won't count it" grandfather replied
"It's not for me, Its for Remy" I said with confidence "I pass He stays in the house, I fail we both leave"
"Clark! Don't!" Jake exclaimed
"Interesting" Grandfather said
