I don't care if I get SU lore wrong, I try my best ok? I just wanna write a cool AU and have fun.
Homeworld is more complex than it seems. Though on the surface, it seems orderly with hundreds of colonies ruled by the ultimate leaders which are the Diamonds themselves, it is chaotic once you brush away the leagues of armies and Gem hierarchy which is the true ruler of us all. It is built on lies and malfunctions, overcooked Gems, failing kindergarten resources and our strongest Diamond Leader hasn't been seen in a millennia or two. Even I, myself, are an example of this failed system: a Lazurite.
When Lapis Lazuli is formed in kindergartens, sometimes the over abundance of minerals and the complete and utter shambles which is quality control can result in Lazurite being created instead of Lapis Lazuli. We're quite sparse in Homeworld, which is one reason we're not talked about much. We're less valuable because of our large concentration of pyrite, which makes me look like a Lapis Lazuli who's fused with a Pyrite Gem. And having to explain to all the Quartz soldiers and Ruby guards that I'm not a fusion of two different Gems has definitely become a drag to say the least.
'What do I do on Homeworld?' you may be asking, and I will give you the relief to know that I'm not a off-colour Gem on the run- you wouldn't catch me dead as one of them. While the humble and calm Lapis Lazuli may not take part in combat, and are rather terraformers or Reporters on planetary growth, Lazurites such as myself have a less... pacifistic use in the Gem Empire.
We are Assassins.
Rebellion groups such as the Crystal Gems or other bands of misfits are usually infiltrated by Gems such as myself. There are not that many rebellions in the Gem Empire for a reason, and there has to be someone who has to do the 'dirty work' of shattering Gems out there; the diamonds do sometimes shatter others, I suppose, but there are much too busy to go around destroying hundreds of Gems at once.
Lazurites are usually last resorts, I was almost commissioned to shatter Rose Quartz, yet My Diamond- Pink Diamond- issued me to go against that order by my Garnet Official Commander. I won't question the Diamond Authority's judgment, even though I thought it was in my opinion... mildly incompetent. We are never usually commanded to enter the field head on, and as a sub- group of Lapis Lazuli, our status though not as high ranking as the average Lapis, is good enough to get us into any wanted areas. Our purpose means that we may have to lay low for long periods of time, playing the game until we can get close enough to whoever we have been tasked to eliminate.Another thing that Lazurites cannot do is poof a Gem. Our unnatural strength causes us to always shatter a Gem, it is practically impossible for us to poof a Gem and even if we do, she will probably be damaged beyond repair. This... talent you could say does sometimes get me in trouble, as my Garnet often wishes to interrogate Gems I have been tasked to find before letting me eliminate them. But I'm sure she is used to it by now, I have been doing this for almost three thousand years, and I am not prepared to stop anytime soon.
Yet... I am not sure about this mission I have been tasted on presently. It is, more unlike my usual tasks. I have been ordered to shatter a Gem Fusion of a Green Pearl and a Larimar which is something I have never done before. I have never been tasked with shattering a random group of Gems, and never before a fusion. I never even knew Pearls could fuse, I always thought they were too weak. But either way, whoever this mysterious and... off-putting fusion of two different Gems may be, they must be extremely strong if I'm their last resort. I wonder if these two Gems enjoy being fused together... or maybe this is another example of the failed Gem Empire on Homeworld and beyond.
