"Oi, Shinoa, where do you think Yuu is? I haven't seen him since first period," Mitsuba pouted as she struggled to put on her usual combat boots. One would think she would be accustomed to it by now.
Turning towards the school's windowed entrance doors and squinting as the sun nearly blinded her, Shinoa replied with a slight shrug, "I... honestly don't know. He wouldn't miss demon weapon training for anything."
"As enthusiastic as he is about kicking vampire ass, I'm sure he wouldn't," scoffed Mitsuba, picking up her school bag and getting ready to leave.
"Why are you asking? ...Are you in love with him?" The red-eyed girl teased with an eerie smile.
"Wha- no!" The blonde felt a blush rise to her cheeks as she rapidly denied such a seemingly outrageous idea-- to her, anyway.
Shinoa's smirk only widened and, noticing this, the thoroughly flustered girl opposite her cleared her throat and walked towards the exit. She stopped halfway to ask her lilac-haired friend of her intentions in staying behind.
Mitsuba was answered vaguely with a quick "I'll catch up later". Oh, how she wanted to wait a bit and find out why Shinoa could possibly wish to linger at a school which, in a recent turn of events, no longer mattered to them. She decided against it, however, since she had earlier planned to use her free time to improve her combat techniques for the next time she sparred with Shinoa. With a wave, Mitsuba bounded off to her unchosen destination, leaving Shinoa at the school's entrance.
The petite girl sat down on a nearby bench to do her homework. Sure, academics might not matter anymore, but it doesn't mean she should leave her unfinished work lying at the bottom of a bookbag to gather dust. She picked up her math textbook and opened to the assigned page.
As Shinoa started to solve her current algebra problem, something unexpected happened.
Something totally and completely unexpected.
