* Four years ago*
"Mommy, what's going on?" I cry.
"I don't know, baby." My mom said trying to stay calm for mine and my little sisters sake.
I don't know what's going on right now. Me, my sister, mom, and dad are at a stand still on the main highway going into Atlanta. Cars are being driven off the road, and people are running away from the city. Earlier this morning, on the news, there was said to be some sort of outbreak. People becoming flesh eating monsters, and wiping out probably most of the human race. I'm really scared and i haven't stopped crying. The news people said there was a safe house thing in the city, but it apparently got over run by those...things. If we don't start moving, then we're going to die.
I try not to look out the car window, but sometimes my eyes drift that way. The images outside are horrid. The world is literally falling apart. My little sister is fast asleep in her carseat, how in the world could you sleep at a time like this? Well, she's only two so, yeah. I'm eleven, and i don't think I'm going to live to see twelve. No. I can't think like that. We're going to make it! We're strong.
"Adelaide, get your sister! Now!" My mom yells.
I unbuckle Taylor's seat belts and gently lift her out of the seat. I craddle her in my arms and wrap her in a blanket. I love my sister so much.
"Addy, what are you doing? let's go!" My dad yells
outside the car.
"Well, nobody told me anything, so I was just admiring my baby sister instead of looking at all those nasty, people eating, freaks out there!" I snap, and hop out of the car.
I had a backpack on my back carrying some of mine and Taylor's clothes, and some food and water. My parents each had a backpack on as well. My dad likes guns, he bought one every time I turned around. so we kinda were prepared.
"Where are we going?" I ask, following in my parent's footsteps.
"Not into the city, that's for sure." My dad sighs.
"It's getting dark. We need to find shelter." My mom says.
"Hey! What about the woods! That's pretty safe...sorta...maybe... I don't know." I shrug.
"Adelaide, do you see any woods around here?" My dad asks sternly.
"Um no." I mutter.
"Exactly."
We walked for like ever, then we finally came across a small gas station. My dad went inside to clear it, while me, mom, and Taylor stayed outside.
About six minutes later my dad came out motioning us to come inside. The place had already been raided, so there was nothing really in here. We locked the doors and barricaded the windows for protection. Me and Taylor were starving, but we didn't have much so we just got a little bit to tie us over. It's dark now and I'm starting to get really really sleepy. But i want to stay awake, what if something happened and i was asleep. I need to be alert. We survived the first day of the apocalypse, or whatever it is. I hope we can survive the whole time, that'd be great.
"Addy?" My mom whispers.
"Addy, wake up."
my eyes flutter open to see my mom crouched over me. I must've fallen asleep.
"What?" I groan.
"Get up. It's time to move." My mom says helping me up.
I look around, "so, this wasn't a dream." I sigh.
