Chapter 16 - Awkwardness

I breathed out deeply. Christmas's over, and now it's time for me to face the mess I started.
"Vonnaaaaaaa!"
I jumped a little. Penelope giggled behind me.
"Hi," I returned half-heartedly, ashamed that she still doesn't know what I did to her. She started talking to me animatedly, but I kept zoning out of her sentences.
"This anime... About... They're so cool... I love it! ... Vonna?" She waved in front of my eyes, pulling me from the depths of my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I replied weakly.
"What's up? You seem distracted," Pen asked. I almost started ranting - almost - but I managed to keep my mouth shut.
"Oh... Nah I'm okay, just a little sleepy... You know, all the holiday homework? Yeah so no biggie." I managed a strangled half-smile.
Pen raised an eyebrow at me, but kept her mouth shut. I looked ahead, not able to look at her. Oh if only Dianne was here... I could talk to her...
"Von? Where are you going?"
Huh? Oh... We've reached the classrooms without me noticing.
"Oh sorry... Maybe I'm too sleepy..." With that, I scurried into my seat and turned to chat with Dianne.

Wh...What did I do wrong? I... I feel rejected...

I glanced at Pen. She was reading on her iPhone, probably on Wattpad. Yet she had a sad look on her face. Did she realize anything? I feel a bit sorry for her... But what can I say? Tell her that she has bad attitude? No way, that'd hurt her even more... Ughh what can I do?
