Shortly after digging through multiple library books and maps, Crowley approached Auvilan. "Just as I suspected: nothing. Your world doesn't seem to be marked on any of the maps, nor is it listed in any records of history," he said. "Are you quite sure that you come from such a place? That wasn't some sort of lie or joke, was it?" he inquired.
"No, I wasn't lying. I really did come from a place called Earth," Auvilan answered truthfully.
"Well, the only other explanation is that you came from another planet, or dimension."
"'Another planet or dimension?' That's impossible..."
"Hm, show me anything you have on you. You must have some form of identification like a driver's license, perhaps? Although, you do look rather empty-handed," Crowley pointed out, crossing his arms as he examined the boy.
Auvilan looked down at his attire and noticed he didn't have anything on him; his phone and wallet were both gone. Not that he had them on his person in the first place. He patted his robe down a bit, searching for anything that he may possibly have that could prove where he was from. However, just as Crowley suspected, aside from the drop earring and turquoise-colored alexandrite ring that he wore, he had nothing. "Well, it's just as you said. I've got nothing on me."
"My goodness, this is quite a predicament. I can't have a magic-less person bumbling about my magic academy. Yet, as an educator, I loathe the idea of having to throw out a young person without a cent to their name, or any ability to contact their guardian..."
Auvilan awkwardly shifted his weight a little, not liking the mumbling he heard from Crowley. Even if the headmage didn't plan to throw him out, what else could happen? Still, he remained silent as he noticed the older man was thinking.
The sudden "Ah-ha" that escaped from Crowley made Auvilan jump a little as he was lost in thought for a moment.
Did he really have to scare me like that?
"There is a vacant building here on campus that you could temporarily stay at. Until I find a way to send you back home, of course. The building used to be a dorm a long time ago, and with a little bit of cleaning, it should be habitable enough!"
Auvilan wasn't sure what he was in for, but at least he wouldn't have to worry about being thrown out into this strange world. Considering he couldn't return home any time soon, he had no other choice here.
He followed after the masked man, listening to him announce how gracious he was. It made Auvilan sigh that this was the kind of person he had to put up with. Then again, he knew he couldn't complain as the situation could have been way worse. For now, he was truly grateful for this more fortunate outcome. Although, he was starting to wonder what Crowley meant when he mentioned that this place had "plenty of character."
Geez, what in the world have I gotten myself into? he wondered with an audible sigh.
