CARTER ALWAYS ASKED HER mom, why drive to Cousins for the summer just to stay in the house beside the Fisher's━━where Belly does too━━than actually stay with them. There are plenty of extra bedrooms when their father visits for the fourth of July or at the end of the summer. Yes, Carter stays in them sometimes━━but they're back in the city they're renting too, because it's just for the time being. Maura wasn't always confident in her new job, and had some reasons she wouldn't tell her daughter about keeping the home.

She didn't really mind. Maybe staying in the house beside the Fisher's was less chaotic than actually living with them for two months. But it seemed as though that chaos was decreasing with Conrad acting so━━well can she say weird?

Yeah, definitely weird.

She finally got what Jeremiah was talking about. But, she was taught to never judge someone before getting to know them━━and since she already knew Conrad since birth, she thought it would be easy to read him, and see what was up.

That wasn't the case.

Anyways! Carter always unpacked on the first day. Her childhood room had sorta been revamped. But, still to the point where she absolutely hated it.

She thinks she's been on Pinterest way too much. She always has these ideas but never enough money to go around for her these days. She didn't mind that either, at least they were getting by and she didn't want her mom to worry too much━━much less about her room getting renovated.

But━━it was home. With every passionate glance at the small room she felt the memories flood back into her brain. Her stuffed animals stacked in the corner of it, her single bed shoved against a wall awkwardly, and the window. The window she had conversation with Jeremiah in the evening, or when it was too late to shout. Therefore, they drew pictures on the window with their breaths or messages on their notebooks.

She still has it to this day.

Suddenly, there's a tap on her window.

Carter looks to see the mop of golden hair peeking through his window, and she opens her curtain and slides it to be able to talk to him.

"You just got here and you're already cooped up in there! Cmon, let's go swimming!"

"You know I always unpack at this time! Your girls got a lot of clothes to go around." She shouted back, picking up a pink tank top and hanging it on an extra hanger.

"And you say Belly overpacks." He chuckled as Carter rolled her eyes.

"Yes━━yes okay, call me a hypocrite. And since you caught me━━" she paused and stared at him. The silence lingered in the humid air for seconds. "━━I guess I'll go swimming with you."

Jeremiah fist pumped the air with a "yes!" before running off into oblivion, making Carter chuckle as she shook her head at his usual childish behaviour. He was always a funny and outgoing kid. Like the ones who would chase you with their cars or scream at the most unnecessary times on a rollercoaster.
