The next day, Jennie called Jessica back to Busan, and spent all morning pacing back and forth in the sitting room while Lisa lounged on the sofa with Jisoo, Chaeyoung and Minnie. Lisa didn't seem bothered at all by the following conversation with Jessica, but Jennie couldn't help but panic. Her aunt had put so much effort into making everything seem real between them, and Jennie was worried about her reaction to the news that they had not only broken the contract, but were now dating outside the control of anyone but themselves. She loved her aunt dearly, but Jessica had always put her duty towards Korea first, and Jennie was worried that her aunt would think that Jennie was ruining a carefully planned out idea that had been in the making for over decade. It wasn't like anything was going to change though; the only difference now was that they couldn't be controlled by anyone, and if things ended, they weren't stuck in a contract that wouldn't let them leave without consequences. Jennie wasn't worried about things ending though – she would never leave.
It was almost lunchtime by the time Jessica got back from Jeonju, and Minnie had whisked Jisoo and Chaeyoung off to Lisa's house to borrow her fencing gear and settle a bet, leaving Jennie pacing back and forth while Lisa sighed exasperatedly. "Jennie, sit down, you're getting yourself all worked up, you dozy mandu."
Taking a deep breath, Jennie crossed over to Lisa and sat down next to her. Shifting into a more upright position, Lisa reached out for Jennie's hand and took it in her own, placing a gentle kiss to the back of it, before holding it in her lap. "Lisa? What if she doesn't approve?"
"Come on, Jennie, do we really need anyone's approval?" Lisa said, giving her a small smile. "If anything, I'd say Dara's approval is the most important anyway, because her opinion isn't laced with any ulterior motives for some damn shitty contract."
Letting out a relieved laugh, Jennie gave her a small smile, "you're right, and I know that she'll approve, so there's nothing to worry about, right?"
Nodding, Lisa gave her a hesitant smile, and Jennie didn't have to ask to know that she was thinking about Lillian. They were both waiting to see what she would do, but at the same time, they knew she couldn't really do anything. Any petty revenge would fall back on her and Lucas too, and it would have the opposite effect of what she'd been hoping for from the contract. At the moment, they were safe.
Jessica showed up not long afterwards, curtsying to them both and standing across from Jennie as they made polite talk for a few moments. Exhaling forcefully, Jennie ran her fingers through her hair, peeking at Lisa for support, before looking up at Jessica. "We broke the contract," Jennie said, cutting to the chase.
Jessica blinked in surprise, falling silent for a moment as Jennie's words sank in. "I don't understand. Do you know what this means?"
"Lady Jessica," Lisa said, climbing to her feet and facing the other woman, "to put it plainly, I love your niece. We found a loophole in the contract, and we're free from it, but things between us ... well, they're not fake anymore. I hope that you can see that this is a good change."
"You love each other?" Jessica incredulously asked, her eyes widening as she looked at Jennie, who was looking a bit pink cheeked and flustered.
