AN: I hope that everyone likes the first part of the story. I am a little anxious about the tv show adaptation of the books but I can't wait to see what they will do with them. Only character I own is Aleksandra.
Aleksandra tore the piece of tape away from the stone wall with a heavy heart as it revealed her father's name. She kissed her hand and placed it against the cold stone with sad eyes.
"I love you, daddy." She whispered faintly as she went back to her seat.
After the burial, Aleksandra stood at his grave, her green eyes full of tears as Dimitri and Yuri watched. She slowly knelt down, unable to hide back the sobs anymore. Her cousin, Adrian came over, putting an arm around her as she leaned against him.
"You know he loved you, Alek...You were his favorite girl." Adrian said, holding her. "Its not fair...I didn't get to see him...he died alone..." She hiccupped. "I know baby girl, I know." He told her.
It was another twenty minutes before he managed to get her to move. He hated that she was feeling this way. However, he saw a changed in her aura when Dimitri pulled her close, slipping into a role for when they were in public. Aleksandra agreed that he would pretend to be her boyfriend when walking, knowing they looked it and it was more natural looking to humans. It glowed brightly as he watched him put his arm around her.
They headed to her grandparents' house where the retired officer saw his granddaughter and her cousin and the two guards. He noticed how Dimitri was her shadow and smiled.
"I was wondering when you would bring someone to meet us." Danny, her grandfather smiled, making her look up. "What...oh, this is Dimitri...mom played match maker, you could say." She said, making him look up at the man.
"I'm so sorry for your loss, sir. I wish I had the pleasure of meeting him." Dimitri said, making Danny nod. "Thank you, son, you're not from here, are you?" He replied. "No sir...Siberia." He replied, making him nod. "I see...Adrian, I am not shocked you came...You and Rhayne were each other's shadows as kids...His parents would let my son keep them for a couple days when they were in town...Gave them a chance to be kids." Danny said.
"Rhayne, I thought you had to leave soon?" Her grandmother asked. "I do...I wanted to see you both first...mom hasn't budged much on school, but I wanted to make sure you two could come for graduation...I can talk to mama." Aleksandra replied. "Of course we will...we wouldn't miss it for the world." She told her, hugging her.
"No we won't...We know you don't get much signal at your school but we wanted to give you a phone on our line...so that you can' call us every Sunday...we want to know how you're doing." Danny said. "Of course." She smiled. "Christy and I love you so much...you take care, you hear me?" He said, hugging her. "Yes, granddad." She smiled. "And bring him next time...maybe I'll get cute great grandbabies." Christy winked, watching the blush form on her granddaughter's face. "Grandma!" She gasped, making her grin wickedly.
"Ms. Ivashkov, we need to be leaving, a bad storm is rolling for the school." Yuri said, making her groan. "No snow." She sighed.
"Wait...Rhayne, this was your father's patrol jacket when he was fresh out of the academy...I had it cleaned up and was going to give it to you when you came to visit." Danny said, handing her the leather jacket. "Grandpa...thank you." She sniffed, making him nod. "Andrew would want you to have it...now go, before you get stranded somewhere." He said, hugging her again.
