...
When John woke up on Monday morning, his first thought was of Alex. His weekend had also been filled with thoughts of Alex. He thought of Alex as he brushed his teeth, and as he dressed, and as he pulled on his shoes, and as he quickly finished an essay for his history class. He thought about Alex as he walked downstairs, and as he popped in a pop tart in the toaster, and as he got into his car. And the only time he stopped thinking about Alex was when Peggy slammed her locker closed, like she did every morning.
"So, you never texted me back. I texted you, like, a bajillion times and called you, like, bajillion squared."
"Um, yeah, my phone was off." John shrugged.
"Really?" Peggy crossed her arms, looking at John suspiciously.
"I met this guy. And we skipped class and got coffee. Then we went to my house." John looked down, looking confused. "It all happened really fast."
"Ooh~" Peggy teased. "Who is he? What did you guys do?"
John shook his head. "Not that kind of stuff. His name is Alex. And he went through my closet. And asked me if I wanted to vandalise something."
"You vandalised something?" Peggy asked.
"No. He changed his mind and said he'd rather go through my stuff," John explained. He moved his hands while he talked.
"You let some guy you just met go through your stuff? Did he find anything interesting?" Peggy looked confused and shook her head. "Also, you skipped class?"
"He says I'm really boring. And, yeah, we did."
"God, guys are all assholes. You are not boring, John." Peggy smiled and patted John's shoulder. "You are very interesting with...whatever hobbies you have." She paused. "What exactly are your hobbies?"
John just shrugged.
"Okay, let's get to class. First period means I get to see Maria."
"I thought you see her in sixth period," John mumbled.
Peggy sighed, and explained. "Oh, well, I did. But then she had to switch her schedule because she wasn't getting all her credits. So, I switched my schedule, so now Maria and I have first period together instead of sixth."
"Okay. What's your first period?" John asked.
"I have no fucking idea."
"Wait," John looked over at Peggy, "you don't know what class you're in?"
"Nope," Peggy chirped. She laughed.
"How does that really work?" John asked, and then crashed into someone. The book he was holding slipped out of his arms and fell to the ground.
"Goddamn!" The person exclaimed.
"Alex," John stated, startled. He bent down and picked up his book, slipping it in his bag.
"Do you make it your business to run into people a lot? Watch where the fuck you're going, guy," Alex snapped.
"Hey, dude." Peggy pushed his chest. "Watch who you're talking to. John didn't mean anything by it."
Alex brushed off his chest, feeling disgusted. He glared. "Who the hell are you?"
"Uh, this is Peggy," John said, quickly. He stepped in between the two of them. "Peggy, this is, this is Alex. The guy I met."
"Him?" Peggy glared. She sighed, and rolled her eyes. "Ohkay, well, now we're late to class. So, we're leaving now." She grabbed John's wrist, pulling John past Alex.
