Valentina P.O.V

1864

I sit quietly beside Stefan as my father rants incessantly about Mystic Falls vampire problem. "May I propose a resolution father?" I ask, hoping to stop this pointless conversation. "And what would a mere girl know about viscous monsters who feast on blood," he scoffs. I stand up abruptly in a pissed manner. "I know that Mystic Falls is swarming with them and you may very well be their next victim! I also know that vampires are attracted to large crowds of people and yet you are worried about my gender! Mystic Falls is only but so big, making us easy targets for hungry creatures who feast at night so excuse me for wanting to live!" I snap. Both Stefan and father stare at me in shock of my out burst. "You disrespectful girl!" He snaps. "Maybe if you learned to show a little respect you would receive some as well. Go ahead and get yourselves killed," I scoff, walking past him. "You do not walk away from me until I order you to do so," he snaps. Even so, I simply ignore him, making my way out of the house. "You know, you two's screaming could be heard all the way in the garden," Damon's voice says from behind me. "Not my problem Mary leaves the doors open for fresh air," I smile, turning to him. 'Walk with me, sister?" He ask, holding his arm out for me. "Gladly," I smile. The two of us hook arms and he leads me through the garden. "So, what is this grand plan you've cooked up in that pretty little mind of yours. Maybe I could convince father I came up with it on my own and he'll listen," he suggest. "And take my credit," I gasp sarcastically. "You know what I mean," he chuckles. "I know. the plan was to throw a festival. Vampire will see it as an all-you-can-eat buffet. The later the night gets, the more they will show their true colors. We'll have people on watch. Some slipping vervain into the cups of the people they pass, therefore, getting it in everyone's system where the vampires won't discover it in the food until they take a bite," I explain. Damon looks at me shocked. "What, didn't know a girl can have a functioning brain," I ask with a raised brow. "Just didn't know my sister was a certified genius," he smiles. I'm about to say something else when the sound of  horses neighing. "That must be Lady Pierce," I say. A couple of weeks ago, Lady Pierce was orphaned when her family died in the war. My father offered to take the girl in. "Let's go greet her," Damon says. We make our way to the front of the house to see a carriage. My father and Stefan are by the steps. The door is opened by the footman and a beautiful woman steps out. Behind her is a pretty black woman. The way she carries herself, I assume she's a servant. Stefan freezes in place and I feel Damon stiffen. "Try to look like less of a horny teenage boy and fix your posture," I whisper over to him. I receive a slight shrug in return. "Lady Katherine," I smile, greeting her. "You must be Miss Salvatore," she smiles. "You are correct. And these are my brothers Damon and Stefan," I smile. The two of them begin to walk over, each with red tints to their cheeks. "Nervous?" Katherine ask jokingly. "You can say that," I chuckle. I like her already. "I'm Stefan," my brother smiles, shaking her hand. "And I Damon," Damon greets, shaking her hand as well. How cliché can the idiots get. "No sisters or woman?" Katherine ask pitifully. "Afraid not. Imagine the irony," I chuckle. The joke causes her to laugh. I'll show you to your living quarters," I smile. "Take her bags would you boys," I wink playfully at my brothers. Both of them rolling their eyes at the fact that I stole their girl. "Calm down boys, I like men," I smirks, walking off with Katherine. "I believe you and I will be great friends," Katherine smiles. "I can't agree more. Now, you and I live across the hall from one another. If you need anything, I'm here. Now, I must get going. I plan on going to the market for some fresh fruit and some freedom from being trapped in a house of boys all day," I smile. "Will you return soon?" She ask. "Just give me an hour or two. I'll be back before supper," I tell her. "How about I join you," she suggest. "Wonderful idea," I smile, turning to her servant. "I apologize. I have been awfully rude. May I know your name?" I ask the woman. "Emily, your grace," she bows. "Please stand," I sigh. "I'm no princess," grabbing her hands to reassure her. I see something flash in her eyes. Maybe shock.  "Shall we head out, Lady Katherine?" I ask her. "Please, call me Katherine?" She says. "And I Valentina,"  I respond. "Now, let's get going before my brothers come to fight for your favor," I sigh. "Do you not want your brother's to find interest in me?" She ask, a little offended. "I don't give a care for their love lives. I just don't want to be around to see it," I sigh, causing her to chuckle.
