<CHESTER'S POV>
"Becca was in an accident," Mallory said over the phone.
"I'm gonna meet you guys at the ER. Tell Becca I love her for me."
The drive to the hospital was the longest 20 minutes of my life. How could this happen? I should have known when she didn't show up. I should have went looking for her. I should have went with her. How could I let this happen? I banged my fist on the steering wheel. Okay. Breath Chester. This isn't about you. It's about Becca. I got to the ER and Mallory, Emily, and Ryan were already there in the waiting room. I ran up to them and frantically asked, "Any word from the doctor?!"
Emily stood up and said, "All we know so far is that she went in for emergency surgery to fix a broken leg and she might have bleeding in the brain."
I was about to break down when I heard the waiting room door open. It was one of my close friends, Justin James Hughes and his wife, Poppy McCoy. Justin gave me a hug and Poppy ran up to Mallory and Emily.
"How do you guys know each other?" I asked, confused.
Poppy said, "Before I moved out here, Becca and I were really close friends. I haven't seen her since I left Arkansas in 2003."
"Oh okay. Well thank you for coming." I said as I gave her a hug.
We sat in the waiting room for about 2 and a half ours before the doctor came out.
"Anybody here with Rebecca Thomas?"
I jumped up and said, "I;m her boyfriend, Chester. How is she?" as I shook the doctor's hand.
"Well, Chester, lets have a seat and I can explain to you all about what is going on with Rebecca at the moment. Before surgery, I thought she might have bleeding in the brain, and I did find that on an x-ray. We gave her some antibiotics to stop that. She actually got out of surgery about 45 minutes ago , but I wanted her to be able to wake up and allow me to run some physical tests before I talked to you guys. From what I understand from her, she was driving through a street light and a car coming from her left ran the red light and hit the side of her car. Her body shifted to the left and she hit the left side of her head on the window. Her brain did the same thing to her skull, causing the bleeding. Now, the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body, and vise-versa. So, the right side of her body isn't as strong. She will have to do some physical therapy for that. She also has a stutter. She will have to go to vocal therapy for that. I know this is a lot to take in right now, and i'm sorry but, with some love and support from friends and family, she will be back to her old self in no time. Would you like to see her? Two people at a time only please."
I decided I wanted to see her first, and since Poppy hadn't seen her in almost 10 years, i'd let her come too. We followed the doctor to her room. She had her eyes closed but I could tell she wasn't asleep. She had a cast around her leg from surgery. I lightly knocked on the side of the door frame and her eyes flew open. I had Poppy wait out in the hall so we could surprise Becca.
"Hey honey, I'm so glad you're okay."
"M...M...Me t..too. I l..lo..love you."
That's the first time I heard her stutter. I started to tear up, but I didn't want her to worry so I changed the subject.
"I have a surprise for you." I said as I walked towards the door and motioned for Poppy to come in. Becca was looking down at her hands when she walked in.
"You miss me, Acceber?" She said with tears in her eyes.
Becca looked up and her face lit up. "Y..Yppop?"
I guess those were their special nick names for each other when they were younger. Poppy practically ran to her bed and gave her a hug. With tear rolling down her cheeks, Becca said "I've m..missed y..y..you so much, P..Poppy.
"I missed you too, Becca."
Becca was crying, Poppy was crying, and the next thing I know, I'm crying too.
"I'm just glad my baby is okay." I said as I kissed the top of her head.
