Chapter 1

“Amelia get your ass out of bed and help get your brother ready!”

I sigh and start to slowly get up from my bed. When I stand up I realize it’s one of those days I feel sad and happy at the same time. I don’t know how that is. When my Dad says “help” my brother get ready he means that it’s my Job to get him up, ready and to daycare.  I walk across the hall into my little brother’s room. “Hey baby bro” I say picking him out of his bed.  My brother is three and when my mom had him she passed away in childbirth. Ever since then my dad has become a heavy drinker. I rush to get him and myself ready because it’s my first day of my senior year. I plan to graduate and leave this godforsaken town with my little brother. I won’t leave him with our father.

I walk past my father and see that in the half hour it took to get my brother ready he had passed out on the couch. I shake my head and grab my car keys from the table. I only have a car because I worked my ass off at the local library for the last two summers. I buckle my brother in his car seat and drive off. I finally get to school five minutes before the bell rings.

I walk into my first class and my eyes are drawn to the guy sitting were I have always sit in this class. He has curly brown hair and from what I can tell he look very tall and he’s of course incredibly sexy.  I walk past him and sit in the seat next to his.  He looks over to me and Smiles. I duck my head down and start to doodle in my notebook. In the corner of my eye I see him frown. I don’t know why he would even want to talk to me. I’m not pretty or tall like all the other girls in my School.  I notice that through the whole class he keeps peeking at me.

I Rush out of the class and run into my one and only friend in this town, Patrick. He and I get along because he has no friends either. Everyone thinks he’s strange because he’s gay. “Hey bitch” he says smiling down at me.

“hey” I say attempting a smile. He looks at me and frowns.

“Something wrong Lia? You have circles under your eyes.”

“No, just tried is all I couldn’t get Jason to sleep last night.”

“You know Lia you shouldn’t be the one to always take care of Jason.”

“I will not leave him to be taken care of my father. He is a drunk and can suck it for all I care.”

“I know your father honey he will never “suck” anything.” he says laughing.

“Oh Patrick.” I laugh. “You excited for the concert tonight?” I ask him. Every year on the first day of school there is a concert with a mystery band.

“hell yes. Pick you up?” I nod and he kisses my cheek and walks away. I sigh and start to walk to my next class. The rest of the day passes in a blur. Finally the last bell rings and I run out the building and drive to Jason’s daycare and pick him up. I get home and my father has seemed to of sobered himself up and bit and actually went to work.  I cook dinner and put the food in the fridge for my father to eat later. I walk over to our neighbor who is an nice old lady named Jane that adores me and Jason. Ever since my mother died she has tried very hard to help out as much as she can. She offered to watch Jason tonight so I drop him off and go back to my house and wait for Patrick. My phone beeps I read get your ass out her bitch –P. I laugh and run down to his car.

I get into his car and we drive towards this field that hosts the concert every year.  We see most of the people from school and try to stay clear of them. We walk to the front of the crowd so we can get the best view. The sun goes down and we know its time for the concert. The lights on the stage start to flash all around. Five guys come out on stage and I realize that I saw all five them at school today.  The one that stands in front of me was the guy from my class. He sees me and grins and waves at me.  I dunk my head again and look away.
