Growing up, I was never bothered with all the school wide parent and child events going on. Where children and their parents would come and do events, while I, on the other hand, would watch, and help the staff. What could I say? I knew that my Daddy was a busy guy. I loved him anyway. I know he's never told me before, but he loves me too.
I distinctly remember a particular memory. I was about 5, and my teacher told the class to draw our hero. I had no reason to lie, so I drew Daddy. I drew the day he found me in the woods. The moon was particularly bright that night, and the trees seemed to sway a lullaby. He reached down his long arms, and held me close to him. I felt safe, and still do.
When I handed in the paper, with a smile, my teacher looked down at me with a horrified face expression. The words she replied with, crushed me to the core....
"Slenderman, is not a hero, Vespertine."
My smile faded. I snatched the drawing from her hands, and I ran out the room. I sat in the hallway beside the door, holding the drawing close to my heart. She has no right to tell me who my hero is. It was my opinion, and mine alone. Not long after, she entered the hallway as well. She sat down in front of me, and attempted to take the picture. I moved quickly, pushing her away, and pulling my knees to my chest, blocking her from the paper. "Mine."
"Vaspertine..." She said to me. Before she could continue, a child came to the door, Jhony, I think his name was.
"Ms. Quantine? Can I use the potty?" He said, holding himself and hopping around.
"Yes, go ahead, Jhony." She turned her attention back to me as Jhony ran back into the room.
After a brief pep talk, be both returned to the room, me keeping the picture in my grasp.
I sat at my desk. Stuffing the picture under a book, I smiled down at it. "Love you, Daddy." I whispered.
"Jhony?" Ms. Quantine said as she knocked on the bathroom door. "Jhony, are you okay in there? I'm coming in, Jhony."
After a moment, there was a scream, followed by a Ms. Quantine running out the room, and grabbing the phone. "Hello? Yes, I'm missing a child. No. No. He was just in the bathroom.... Yes, I'll hold."
Smiling, I stood up. "Ms. Quantine?"
"Not now, Vaspertine."
"But, Ms. Quantine..." I said as I reached into my desk.
"I said not now, Vas-" She looked up, and came face to face with my picture.
"Daddy doesn't like what you said about him."
