Mangoes

The vibrating of the car stirred me out of my dream as I opened my eyes. My head was lying against the mattress and my legs were wrapped around the passenger seat in a strange manner. Carson was at the wheel, Jack lying on his lap. The brightness of the sun was streaming through the windshield and the two windows in the back. I groaned and stretched and blocked the light from out of my eyes. Carson heard my moaning and turned his head in my direction.
"LOOK AT THE ROAD YOU NINNY!" I hollered. He abruptly turned back to face the front, a grin on his face. I rolled my eyes and smirked as I climbed into the front seat.
"That sets the tone for the day," he smiled. His eyes were that stunning shade of blue again. We were still driving on the highway, but the cars were more sparse at this time in the morning.
"Where are you going?" I forgot this wasn't my car or my friend or a place I should be.
"Maine."
"Wow, that's really precise," I teased.
"Oh damn," he held the steering wheel away from him,"shouldn't I be driving you home?" He had a worried expression on his face.
That shocked me too. I forgot all about home in about 2 days. I suck. Yet, I still said, "No. Keep going."
"Seriously?"
"Seriously. I have no one at home right now, anyways."
"Hun." He spit out. "But we are literally strangers to each other."
Oops. Kind of forgot about that too. "Well..."
He raised his eyebrows.
"I want to live a little," I said as I read a road sign that had an arrow pointed in the direction of Maine.
"Alright," he whispered. He seemed nervous. "What if I'm a murderer?"
"Then I'll get out of the car at the next stop." I watched the road rush by outside my window.
He frowned. "Look, I don't normally travel with another person. I feel like your my responsibility, which is totally stupid because I don't even know why I'm letting you stay here in the first place."
"I promise that if I break my neck, I won't blame it on you." I tried to smile nicely, but I probably looked like a camel.
"I don't even know if I have that many mangoes left to go around!" He was jumping around in his seat, and that made Jack leave for the back.
"Mangoes? What the hell do mangoes have to do with this?"
"I'm vegetarian," he explained.
