Chapter 8

Veera, Tanet and Kla are seated in Veera's room, looking at each other in silence.

Veera: Kla, do you have any idea about what is going on here?

Kla: A little. Uncle Narong told me about Waan and cancellation of the wedding.

Veera: Wedding is happening.

Kla: Huh

Veera looks at Tanet and then at Kla.q

Veera: We are getting married.

Kla: WHAT?

Kla looks at Veera and Tanet in shock. Veera then explains everything to Kla.

Kla: But, aren't you gambling with your life here?

Veera: We are and we don't have a choice. This is for the greater good Kla. We both have lost the one we love and the only thing we can offer is this marriage, for our family and for the thousands who depend on us.

Kla: But

Tanet: This is the only solution PKla. We have already thought about this thoroughly.

Kla: Hmm. I am with you in whatever you decide to do.

Veera: Thank you Kla.

Just then there is a knock on the door.

Veera: Come in.

Servant enters the room.

Servant: Mr and Mrs. Wang are leaving and they are looking for young master Tanet.

Tanet: Please tell them that I am coming.

The servant leaves the room immediately.

Tanet: I think it's time for me to leave.

Veera: I will come with you. I need to say bye to your parents.

Tanet nods his head.

Veera: Kla, you wait here. I will be back in few minutes.

Kla: Okay

Veera goes with Tanet to send off him and his parents.

In the living room:

Tanet says goodbye to Veera's parents and then walks towards Veera.

Tanet: I will see you soon.

Veera: Hmm. I will need your help to get my suit for the wedding.

Tanet: Just give me a call when you decide the time.

Veera: Hmm

Tanet: Do you have my number?

Veera shakes his head in no.

Tanet: Give me your phone.

Veera gives Tanet his phone. He types something on the phone and gives it back to Veera.

Tanet: I have saved my number on your phone. Just give me a missed call and I will save your number.

Veera: Hmm

Veera bid goodbye to Tanet and his parents. He then go to his room as Kla is waiting for him. As he enter the room, he can see Kla looking at him with an unreadable expression.

Veera: What?

Kla: Are you happy?

Veera: No

Kla: Why? You are getting married to the love of your life.

Veera: I am getting married to my sister's love. This is a marriage of convenience.

Kla: Then why did you agree?

Veera: Because I cannot say no to him. I tried, I tried so hard but I just could not say no.

Kla: This marriage will cause you more pain when it comes to an end.

Veera: I know. But this is the closest that I will get to my dream of being his. I just want to live my dream to the fullest.

Kla: Veera

Veera: I know I am pathetic but what can I do? I love him so much Kla. I just...

Kla hugs his friend and rubs his back to soothen his pain.

Kla: It's okay Veera. Who knows if this marriage is God's way of showing you that you guys are made for each other. Let's just hope for the best.

Veera wipes his tears and looks at Kla with a slight smile. The two friends talk for some more time and then Kla leaves for his home.

Later that night, Veera is lying on bed looking at the ceiling as he is unable to sleep. He gets up abruptly on hearing a knock on his door.

Veera: Come in.

His dad and mom enter the room and looks at him with a forced smile.

Veera: Dad, Mom,what are you doing here so late. I thought you would have slept.

Veera's dad: We...we just wanted to make sure that you are okay.

Veera: I am fine dad.

Veera's dad: Son, we don't want you to sacrifice your happiness for us.

Veera: I lost my happiness long ago dad.

Veera's dad and mom looks at him curiously.

Veera: Six years back, I fell in love with a boy. He was a fresher in our college and I just fell in love with him. It was love at first sight for me. Kla and Waan asked me to confess but I never got the courage to do it. Then in the last year of my college, I decided to confess but it was too late. He was already in love with someone else.

Veera's mom: Oh my poor baby.

Veera: It's Okay mom. It's been a long time and I have learned to live with it.

Veera's dad: Do you still..

Veera: Yes, I do. I still love him but it does not matter anymore. I am getting married to Tanet and that's it.

Veera's dad: What if you find love after you get married?

Veera: That's not going to happen dad. I have already given my share of love to someone and I don't intend to do it again.

Veera's mom: But..

Veera: I am sorry to disappoint you. I know you want me to get married, have kids and lead a happy life. But I..

Veera's dad: You have never disappointed us son. You have always been a good son, brother and human being. We are proud of you. We just wish you find happiness in the life you just chose for yourself.

Veera's eyes fill with tears on hearing his parents words. He hugs his parents and cries his heart out.

Veera: Thank you so much for understanding and supporting me. I love you both.

Veera's mom: We love you too baby.

Veera breaks the hug and wipes his tears. He looks at his parents with a smile.

Veera: I think it's enough stress and tears for a day. Let's just call it day and go to sleep.

Veera's dad: Hmm

Veera hugs his dad.

Veera: Goodnight dad

Veera's mom pecks his forehead and looks at him with a smile.

Veera's mom: Goodnight baby.

Veera: Goodnight mom.

Veera's mom and dad exits his room with a smile.

Veera lets out a sigh of relief as his father exits the room. He felt happy after telling about his past to his family. He didn't want them to have any unnecessary expectations from him. Now he can happily get into this arranged marriage with Tanet without any guilt. He lay down on his bed and closed his eyes to get some sleep.
