ONE Human

Part 9: "Being human doesn't matter here!"

(Summer's POV)

It was a long sleep. But even during this sleep I had another dream, although it thankfully wasn't scary, but it was weird. I was once again in a dark place but I saw a stone with no mouth in front of me this time. They started walking over to me, but I had a feeling something bad was gonna happen. They then made some movements to stop. Since I knew some sign language, I could see from those movements and by their expressions that they meant no harm. So I went over and asked what they wanted, and they ended up writing on the floor. "Sorry if this is out of nowhere but I'm here to help." I tried asking how they were gonna help me but at this point, the dream was ending and I was waking up.

I woke up to the sounds of Bryce and Liam discussing things, most likely with Texty. I sat up as they were talking about other contestants when they noticed I was up. "Oh, morning Summer." Said Liam. I yawned and asked what was going on, Bryce chimed in with "Texty found something regarding the show, we figured you might wanna see it as well. I got up curious, and went over to see a list of all the contestants, I scrolled through it and I recognized two of them aside from everyone else I met there. The triangle mash that I saw in my dream 7 months ago, and the stone guy I saw in my recent dream. I was so focused on seeing these other contestants that I didn't notice that the others found something and surprised me when a bunch of random people showed up on the screen. I asked what happened and Liam told me that we had been competing in a second season of the show, I was shocked to discover more people had been here before any of us, but something else made me wonder.

I noticed in both season pages that Airy had the contestants backgrounds and personalities of who they were, or most likey what Airy thought of them. And I wasn't even shown my own profile, so when we were talking about one of the previous contestants, Oscar who was in New York, I couldn't even focus too much because I wanted to know more about the website. They were about to head out when Liam looked over and asked "Summer, you coming with us?" I replied with "..I'd love to come..but I wanna know more on this laptop." He told me he understood and they both left. I asked Texty to go back to the current season, which did happen. And I eventually found my profile along with Pearl. After seeing that Pearl was still on the show, I checked my profile.

I saw that Airy got a picture from when I was a human, on vacation, but what really shocked me was what Airy said about me in my personality. It said "Summer is a human who lives in Baltimore, Massachusetts. She likes Music and long walks in the park. She hates conflict and sudden changes in her schedule. She is Apathetic, like most humans and only cares about her grades and what she wants." That's when I finally realized what those voices were all about and why I was the only one hearing them. Airy had been putting these thoughts in my head and made me try to think what he believed all humans were like, knowing this made the voices all make sense. Texty then asked me "What else do you wanna see regarding the show?" I replied with "...Actually I think I'm done."

Hours went by and I did nothing except eating when I needed to and talking with Texty a bit. Near midnight I thought about just going to bed, but that's when Liam and Bryce walked in, looking like they were talking about some important. I went over and asked what happened during their trip, Liam said that they didn't gain any new information but he might have an idea about what one of the notes meant. As our conversation continued, where I learned more about what Liam experienced after he drowned, he then pointed out how the weather was exactly what matched a location on one of the notes. He said that we should head there next, and I thought that was a good idea since we were getting nowhere elsewhere. Bryce however argued with us saying we would be trespassing this way and it would get us in trouble. We tried to argue back by saying how this matters and I even brought up how Stone expects us to do the right thing and that they did the same for me, but he said back "Summer, stay out of this!"

After arguing for a few more minutes, we ultimately decided we had to get some rest. Once Bryce went to bed, Liam came over to me and whispered "Summer, let's go." I asked what would happen to my Lava since I was going in the rain, but he assured me that the rain wouldn't be much trouble. We then got a few things we needed and left. The ride there was pretty rough, Liam wasn't a very good driver, which I learned once we crashed near our location and accidentally dropped a bit of lava. That's when I started getting nervous but after a bit more reassurance we left the car. We got a bit far when Bryce stopped both of us, stating that this has gone too far. Then an argument started, it wasn't pretty to watch. Seeing an argument like this before my eyes was something uncommon and I started getting scared of what was transpiring. When Liam snapped at Bryce saying that he and I were stranded on that plane for 7 months and he said he's dead to this world, I followed up with that with "Yeah! And think about when I went through! I wasn't even allowed to go home!" Bryce ended up snapping at me and said "BEING HUMAN DOESN'T MATTER HERE!! YOU PROBABLY AREN'T EVEN ONE OF THOSE HUMAN CREATURES ANYWAY!!" That's when the argument got worse and him and Liam were just shouting at each other, it ended with Liam running away, insisting on doing this and Bryce ran after him. Leaving me alone in the rain, with no way of knowing how I could help.

An argument like this I haven't heard in forever, it was a traumatic thing for me. Tears welled up as I pulled out the note Liam gave to me revealing my location, rage consumed me as I was convinced that I never mattered in their eyes, the kind people they were was never real. I ripped up the note and threw it on the pavement. I sat there for about ten minutes, crying my eyes out thinking about the outburst both of them had. I was also thinking about the voices Airy was putting in my head which made my sob harder, since I was starting to see how I might've actually been a jerk. I'm unable to help others for my own reasons, I wasn't even able to help Pearl though his own troubles, and I'm not even willing to help both him and Scenty by going along with this. I said out loud "Maybe I really am Apathetic." As soon as I said that though, I heard a loud bang of lightning as well as a flash where the tower was at. I immediately assumed the worst and ran to the tower, I climbed over the fence and climbed up the tower as fast as I could. Before I could process where they were, I saw Bryces keys on the ground and picked them up. Before I could look, another flash of lightning came, but I felt pain. I fell to the floor as all my lava spilled out.
