I can feel light hitting my eyelids; it's the afternoon sunshine. What would I see if I woke up? I slowly fluttered my eyes open. I fidgeted my fingers and toes and rolled my shoulders, to find I was extremely sore. I perked my ears to hear beautiful tweets and chirps of far-off birds. For a while, I hummed along to their song. Then, my eyes finally cleared up, but they squinted at the sun’s rays. Waiting for my eyes to adjust, I uncomfortably shifted out of bed. Smooth silk rubbed against my skin. I stood up and felt the flat, wooden flooring underneath my bare feet. I stumbled as I took a few steps forward.

I stared across the room, hopelessly irritated. Something seemed off about this place, but I couldn’t tell what it was. Do I know this place? The bed I slipped out of was under a wide window, where rays of sunshine slipped through. The room was mostly wooden. It reminded me of a small cabin. It had a dark-brown cabinet, and a smooth timber desk. It seemed like any ordinary room to me.

A shining reflection blinded me. Wobbly, I walked toward to what seemed to be a large mirror. There, I stood a staring at the projection that appeared to be me.  My golden hair fell below my chest. There were light blues eyes gleamed back at me. I had a thin, long body matched with a pair of red lips.

A flashing image appeared in my head sending a throb throughout my mind. The teenager in the mirror wasn’t me. My head was spinning and aching as I pictured myself.  I immediately saw the difference. I was taller and slimmer. My features were more refined and my wavy, golden hair was no longer at my chest.  It seemed as if I aged by a few years. I moaned as my headache worsened.  I also saw a flashing image of a black shirt, jeans and worn down combat boots, on the younger me. Those were peasant clothes, but now I wore a magnificent dress. It was very odd!

I took a deep breath, and my headache suddenly smoothed over.  Now I focused on my majestic gown that I was dressed in. It was a flowing light blue dress that glimmered in the light. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. I found it shocking as how well it fit me. It seamlessly surrounded my waist. The blue layers neatly flowed down to the ground, matching my height. It had long sleeves, but it exposed my shoulders. In addition, I slipped on a pair of clear heels that I found nearby. Though, they were hidden underneath the lengthy cloth. The simplicity behind it made it remarkable.   It was so, what’s the word, fancy? At that moment, I thought of nothing else. I felt like a princess.

After moments of admiration, I noticed a closed door in the corner of my room. I extended my hand out to the golden knob. I twisted and pushed the door open. Left, right, left, I walked through a narrow hallway. The passage opened up into a larger room, which was empty except for an ominous rocking chair. The room was lit by a few flickering candles that rested on the small sills.

It all seemed wrong. My name was indistinguishable, and the large cabin that I awoke in was unknown. Another thing caught my eye, a calendar. It was August 12, 2168. All the days that passed were marked with big red x’s. Besides the flickering candles burning, the shady cabin was dim.  Curious and questionable; I sought to go outside.

The front door was designed exactly as the last, big and wooden combined with a golden knob.  Feeling the smooth metal against my skin, I shifted it sideways. My heart beat as it fails to turn. I realized it was locked.  I violently shook it to no prevail.

“No, no, please open.” I begged.

I felt as if I was trapped or kept captive.  Holding one eye to the keyhole slit, I peeked through. I stood there motionless for a while until I had an idea. In the corner of my mind, I found the answer. What I need was a pin. Glancing around the vacant area, I saw none in sight.
