Y/n's POV
Katie and I were walking to meet up with Alexa. Katie had bought Alexa and Megan a box of donuts from the lobby. Katie opened the box and took out a rainbow sprinkles donut and started eating it.
"Katie! You know that's for Alexa and Megan..."
"It's a long walk from the donut place!"
"Alright, Katie. Whatever you say."
~Time skip~
(Fun fact: I'm pretty sure this is my first official time skip that I am addressing as a time skip.)
~This time skip was brought to you by Jessica, because she's not in this version~We walked into the room. Alexa and Megan were both sitting in chairs. Megan had earbuds in, reading. Alexa was looking at what looked to be a fashion magazine.
"Hi!" Katie greeted. "Your entertainment is here."
"Hey!" I said.
Alexa laughed. "Katie! Y/n!"
Katie and I walked behind Alexa's chair, and Katie set down the box of donuts on a table.
"Hey, you started without us," Katie commented.
"Yeah, I have VIP privileges here." She noticed the box of donuts. "Oh, donuts!"
"I got your favorite--" Katie started.
"Rainbow sprinkles?" She rushed to check the box. She looks up at Katie. "Where is it?"
"You didn't let me finish..."
"Yeah, um..." I fidgeted with my sleeve.
"I sort of ate it..." Katie confessed. Alexa stared at her. "Hey, it's a long walk from the donut place," Katie defended.
"The donut place in the lobby?" Alexa asked.
"That's the one."
"I know," I said, shrugging. "I told her."
Katie tapped Megan, getting her attention. "Megan! Donut?"
She took out her earbuds. "Ooh! Any rainbow sprinkles?" She checked the box.
"Yeah, they were out."
Katie and I walked around Alexa's chair and took off our purses. "Oh, found our first-day-of-school outfits," Alexa said.
Katie and I looked at the magazine Alexa was holding. "Ooh!" I said.
"Fancy!" Katie said.
"Yeah, and when we wear it, we have to look like this..." She did a silly model pose, putting her hand on her hip. I laughed.
"Wait, does that mean Dr. Breitwieser cleared you for school?" Katie asked.
"I'm starting high school this Monday just like everyone else. And I don't want anyone at school to know. I'd hate it if they treated me all weird." She gasped. "Especially Gwenny Thompson. Can you imagine if she knew I'd been sick?"
I cringed. "Eugh..."
"Oh, yeah. You guys might start being nice to each other."
Alexa had on a face that made it seem like just the thought of that traumatized her. "That'd be horrible..."
Katie started pacing behind Alexa's chair. "Okay, but when exactly is the doctor going to let you know you're clear? I mean, did he never have a first day of high school? Doesn't he know what this means to us?"
"Can you sit down, please? You're making me nervous around my IV." Alexa put her hand on the machine.
Katie walked behind Alexa's chair. "Wait, seriously? But I am-- I am so care--" She tripped and fell, grabbing onto Alexa's chair. "Maybe I will sit." She sat next to Alexa in her chair.
"Fine, then. I'll just sit on the floor by myself. No worries." Katie sighed, pretending to be annoyed. She and Alexa scooted over so I could fit next to Katie.
"Ok. Oh, and he's calling my mom today at three," Alexa said.
"What?" Katie asked. "Wait, why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I knew you would go all Katie."
"Go all Katie?" She echoed, faking an accent. She scoffed, then spoke in her normal voice. "I'm just saying, why call at three? You know, if he knows, he knows. I mean, why not call at one? Why not two? Why not--..." She paused, realizing. "Oh, yeah, this is going all Katie..."
"Are you kidding me?!" We heard Nurse Lynda yell from another room.
"Oh, what did you do?" Katie asked Alexa.
Alexa laughed. "Something fun~..."
"I doubt that... How are you so comfortable with getting in trouble?" I asked Alexa.
"Right?" Katie agreed.
"Oh, she's coming," Alexa warned.
We pretend to read the magazine and Nurse Lynda walked in. "You three? Of course!" She lifted up her hands, revealing that they were blue. "Who put dye in the soap dispenser?"
My eyes darted around the room as I started getting nervous. Why was I so nervous?
"I don't know who did it, but the bottle says it comes off with vinegar," Alexa said, casually.
"Alexa, there are many reasons why I'm glad your treatments are almost over." She left the room.
Katie and I threw some donut crumbs in Alexa's mouth.
Alexa's POV
This is the story of how I beat cancer. When it all started, my nurse told me to write down the things I'm grateful for to help me be positive. That first day, it was for grape popsicles, my family, and my best friends. I've been grateful for Katie and Y/n a lot, but this time, I'm super grateful for them. You'll see.
