Suddenly, we took off to Hagrid's We learned that the stranger in the pub
knew how to get past Fluffy. Now, we may be a tad thick, but we knew what that
meant. Well, I did. They all figured it meant Snape, but I knew it was the real
crook, whoever it was. That meant we didn’t have much time left. We ran inside
to talk to Dumbledore. Of course, Dumbledore had left.
We decided we had to get it first, there was no way we couldn’t. When we
went to leave, we ran into Neville.
"Neville, please this is bigger than anything you could imagine," I said
looking him square in the eyes.
"You shouldn’t be here," he said, shaking his head, "You’ll get Gryffindor
into trouble again."
"Neville," I began as Hermione sent a curse.
"Sorry Neville," we both whispered, slipping under the cloak.
Carefully, we snuck to the door. The door was already open, so we slipped
in easily. We managed to safely get past Fluffy and land on a plant of sorts.
After a few seconds, it began trying to capture us.
"Relax, it’ll only kill you faster," Hermione said to the boys, who were
struggling.
"Devil's Snare," I murmured. After a few moments, Hermione and I slipped
through it. With our instructions, Harry got through, but, of course, Ron had to
panic. Hermione sent up flames and it let him go.
"Good thing we didn't panic," Ron said, wiping off his clothes.
"Good thing the girls pay attention in Herbology," Harry said as I rolled
my eyes and muttered, "Good thing Hermione knows how to make flames."
Next, we came to a locked door. We started by trying Alohomora. We did as
was necessary and Harry caught the key and let us out. We walked into a giant
chess board.
"I hate Wizard's Chess," I said, wanting to cry.
We made it to the last play before Ron hit that spot.
I stayed, letting the other two go before me. When Hermione came back
alone, I ignored her and ran. I knew it was stupid and irrational, but I didn’t
care. I managed to make it through the logic portion and literally walked into a
wall of fire. I did the total klutz thing: I tripped and rolled through the wall
of flames and down a short flight of steps. I jumped to my feet to see Harry
staring at Quirrell. He was facing us, but on the other side of his head was
Voldemort.
"Who's she?" Voldemort hissed.
"Sky Potter, Lord," Quirrell muttered.
He knew then that I was alive. I knew then that I wouldn't be safe, not
until he was dead and gone.
"Regardless of this new dilemma, give me the stone," He said in a creepy
voice.
"Harry, run!" I yelled at the idiot, who was standing there, shocked. He
slowly backed away tripping on the stairs. He fell back and Quirrell came
towards him, strangling him. Then the man's hands began to burn, like acid.
Harry dropped the stone and I dashed for it. I grabbed it as Quirrell went to
kill Harry.
"No!" I shrieked as Harry grabbed Quirrel's face. Slowly, the man
disappeared and crumbled to nothing on the ground.
I grabbed Harry, hugging him in relief. "Idiot," I said, tears running down
my face, "You could’ve died."
I noticed a dark shadow coming up from Quirrell’s robe/remains/who knows
what. It came towards us in a strong gust of wind and I felt a scorching pain in
my shoulder. It was worse than any pain I had ever felt. I know I initially said
scorching, but it wasn't, really. It was like a combination of scorching and
being stabbed with a blunt, rusty weapon, but worse. I struggled to stay
conscious and saw Dumbledore. I knew he wouldn’t kill me; at least not unless
there was some really messed up stuff going on.
*******
When I woke up, I was in the hospital wing with no one but Harry. Madame
Pomfrey called Dumbledore.
He sat down and smiled at me. "Well done," he smiled.
"What happened?" I said in a scratchy voice.
"I got you both to the hospital wing as well as Ron. The stone has been
destroyed."
"What about Nick?" I asked, frowning. The old man beamed delightedly.
"You did wonderfully, didn't you?" he looked like he was about to burst
with joy.
"You did this on purpose?" I screamed.
“No, well sort of. I wanted to see what you would figure out on your own. I
didn’t mean for you to be injured.” He smiled like a little kid caught stealing
from the cookie jar.
“Are you gonna answer my question?” I demanded huffily.
“He will set his affairs in order, and then he will die.” Dumbledore said,
smiling sadly.
“Why did you destroy it then?” I asked, astounded.
“We decided that it wasn’t worth all of the risks,” he said as if it was
obvious.
“But, he’s gonna die,” I interjected.
“Death is not something to be feared, it is inevitable and just the next
step; like changing from an infant to a child.” Dumbledore said smiling.
“You know that kinda makes sense,” I said, giving him a strange look. “What
happened to Quirrell? Was that really,” I paused, trying to think of what to
call him.
“Voldemort?” he offered. I nodded my head slightly. “Quirrell was inhabited
by Voldemort. His soul couldn’t bear contact with something as good as Harry’s.
It also had to do with Lily’s sacrifice.”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“Lily died to save you both, and that left a mark, not the kind you’d
think. It was a mark of love, inside of your heart. You could have done it too,
you are protected by your mother’s sacrifice.” He said smiling.
“What happened when Quirrell melted, or crumbled, or whatever?”
“He died,” Dumbledore said, giving me a quizzical look.
“No, the black cloud thing that came out of him,” I said, exasperated.
“That was, I believe, the essence of Voldemort,” he explained.
“It went through us, my shoulder,” I gasped, and pulling the gown away from
my left shoulder, I saw the mark. It was identical to Harry’s and a sort of red
color. Dumbledore frowned.
“I wish I knew what that was,” he murmured. I could tell he was lying but
decided not to press the point.
“Can I leave?” I sighed suddenly.
“If Madame Pomfrey clears you,” he laughed.
“Madame Pomfrey,” I yelled desperately. She was almost to me when I yelled,
“Can I leave?”
“I suppose,” she said, giving me an aggravated look.
I jumped out of bed and left. I ran straight into the common room,
forgetting about my attire.
“Sky,” Hermione yelled, jumping to her feet. The whole room looked at me. A
few people began to chuckle.
“Forgetting something, Sky?” Fred said. I looked at him sideways.
“Look down,” George said, laughing. I did and blushed.
“Oops,” I whispered. I dashed up the stairs and put on clothes. Then I ran
to the hospital wing to see Harry talking to Dumbledore.
“Harry,” I screamed. “You’re awake!” I beamed.
“Hey Sky,” he said laughing.
“I’ve got to go, but I’ll come back later,” I said smiling. In truth, I
didn’t want to hear Dumbledore.
“Hey guys,” I sighed plopping down on the couch next to Hermione. Fred and
George were sitting in front of us.
“Are you alright? What happened?” These were the questions I caught.
“I’m fine, except for this scar,” I showed them my shoulder.
“Wicked,” Ron said. I rolled my eyes.
“What happened to you?” Hermione asked.
“I don’t really know,” I sighed again. “It was some sort of dark magic.”
“I’m happy you’re not dead,” George tried to sound serious.
“Yeah, life’s more interesting with you around,” Fred agreed. Then they
burst out laughing.
“I’m gonna miss all of you this summer, while I sit locked up inside of a
castle,” I said honestly.
“What do you mean?” Fred asked taken aback.
“The orphanage, we’re going to visit some castle. Then I’ll just be locked
up in the top floor of the orphanage. I don’t get along with the other kids.
They think I’m strange.” I explained.
“That sounds horrible,” Hermione said.
“It’s only a few months,” I said, shrugging. After a little while, the
others left me alone. Despite sleeping for God knows how long, I was exhausted.
I went to sleep early.
The next thing I knew, it was the end of year feast.
“Another year gone,” Dumbledore smiled out at us, not making anyone feel
left out. "And I must trouble you with an old man's wheezing waffle before we
sink our teeth into our delicious feast. What a year it has been! Hopefully your
heads are all a little fuller than they were. You have the whole summer to get
them nice and empty before next year starts.
Now, as I understand it, the House Cup here needs awarding, and the points
stand thus: In fourth place, Gryffindor, with two hundred and fifty-two points;
in third, Hufflepuff, with two hundred and ninety-two points; Ravenclaw has
three hundred and sixty- four; and Slytherin, four hundred and twelve." The
little Slytherin gits cheered as the rest of us clapped halfheartedly.
"Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin," said Dumbledore. "However, recent events
must be taken into account." We all became dead silent. "Ahem," said Dumbledore.
"I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see. First, to Mr. Ronald
Weasley for the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years. I
award Gryffindor House fifty points." Everyone congratulated him.
“Second, to Miss Hermione Granger for the use of cool logic in the face of
fire, I award Gryffindor House fifty points." Hermione blushed as everyone
congratulated her.
“Third, to Miss Sky Potter for the bravery to protect her friends in
intimate danger, I award Gryffindor house sixty points.” I smiled and ducked as
I felt everyone reach towards me.
"Third, to Mr. Harry Potter," said Dumbledore. The room went deadly quiet.
"For pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor House sixty points."
Everyone who could count was whispering in excited voices, “We are tied
with Slytherin!” It traveled like an echo through the hall.
"There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, beaming. "It takes a
great deal to stand up to our enemies, but even more to stand up to our friends.
I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom, which means we need a
little change of decoration.”
The hall was an explosion. The joy could hardly be contained. At that
moment nothing else mattered, we had done it.
“By the way, Sky, you’re spending summer with us,” Fred whispered in my
ear.
“We set it up with Mum and Dumbledore,” George told me.
“No way,” I said jumping up and down. “This is gonna be the best summer
ever!” I turned around and hugged them both.
After the feast, I went straight to Dumbledore.
“Thank you,” I screamed.
“For?” He asked.
“Summer, I know it was your decision in the end.” I said simply. He smiled.
“Excuse me,” I said dashing out. I went to visit Snape.
“Hi,” I said, beaming as I ran into the room. He smiled at me. “By the way,
not cool keeping the secret that it was Quirrell. If we had shared information I
wouldn’t have nearly died.” I said still smiling.
“Can’t take you seriously smiling like that,” he said, laughing.
“I don’t have to go to the orphanage!” I yelled.
“Congratulations. As well as on the sixty points you got for Gryffindor,”
he said smiling at me.
“Thanks, you really slowed me down with the logic,” I said giving him the
evil eye.
“You weren’t supposed to be there at all,” he said, smirking. “Do I get the
fine privilege of hearing the true story?” He asked.
“Well, a while ago, we found out about Flamel. It took longer to get info
on the sorcerer’s stone. Then we learned that Hagrid had told the stranger in
the pub about Fluffy. We snuck past Fluffy and fell into the Devil’s Snare.
Hermione and I outsmarted that. Harry got the key, we all just helped. Ron
really did sacrifice himself at the chess game. Then Hermione and Harry went on.
She came back alone and I went to find him. Then it gets confusing, even for
me.” I finished.
“You should get to bed, Sky,” Snape said after a while.
“Night, see you next year. May it be less dramatic than this one.” I
laughed, skipping out.
The next day, we left Hogwarts. I felt like I was leaving home, but knew
this would be a great summer.
