In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth. Genesis tells the story of creation. It tells the story of human disobedience and its disastrous colors. It tells the story of human nature and their urge to do wrong, despite the authority. We become sick with the same and become filled with a sickly, strong urge, a desire even, to explore the new.
Adam and Eve are the original sinners. They are the original sin. Despite God's best wishes, they took a bite of that forbidden fruit, they feasted on its ambrosian insides and in turn, paid the ultimate price for it. They were quickly banished from the sacred garden for not only going against God but, for wanting the same power he held. Greed is a nasty thing. Make haste with following the advice of millions. Do not make the same mistake they did.
We see human betrayal in multiple forms, regardless of religion. The story of Prometheus is a great example of just how selfish we are. Prometheus used his two hands to mold us from clay. Given the task of handing out good qualities, Epimetheus quickly found that he had run out of any good qualities to give humans. Prometheus decided to have man stand upright just like the Gods and give them fire. Just. Like. The. Gods. That was his original sin. Prometheus held a love that was much bigger and greater compared to his love for the Gods. We often wonder if he knew just what he was getting into when trusting man with this type of power.
History has shown in multiple instances that humans don't do well in situations where they have immense amounts of power. We are too corrupted, too vain, too selfish, to be given things of this nature. From this original sin, this original betrayal, grew the Seven Deadly Sins. Seven abominations that not even the lord himself can learn to love. Sloth, Gluttony, Pride, Envy, Lust, Wrath, and Greed.
Everyday, no matter how hard we try, no matter how Christian we label ourselves, we stray further and further from God's light. Because everyone has their own Forbidden Fruit.
