This part will be a bit shorter than the others, but it is very important (Also sorry this took so long, I had 0 motivation)
As I shot the gun I felt a surge of adrenaline. I pulled the ear protection off my head and put the empty gun down. My phone began to ring as I walked toward the exit. "Hello?" I asked once I had put it to my ear.
"Raven," it was Alina's voice, though she sounded more serious than usual,
"What is it?" I asked,
"It's begun," my stomach dropped, "You'll be given further details later. I'm sending an address through now," and then the call ended.
"Who was that, Corvo?" Matteo's arms snaked around my waist and pulled me close,
"Wrong number," I lied. My phone buzzed and I prayed he didn't realise.
"I have to go," he told me, "I have a mission,"
"Good luck," I smiled as he kissed my head and then let me go and walked through the door of the shooting range. I checked my phone and then silently left the shooting range and went down into the garage. I went toward the more 'normal' cars and was about to climb into one when I heard a voice.
"Where you going?" I turned to see the twins walking toward me, both sweating, wearing tank tops and jeans, and rubbing their greasy hands on rags.
"Out," I sighed, "I need to get out of this house," Roberto nodded and Garcia tucked the rag into her pocket. I opened the door to the car but they stopped me again,
"If you wait I'll come with," Garcia told me,
"I'll come too," Roberto agreed,
"I'd rather be alone if that's alright with you guys?" I shrugged,
"It's fine," Garcia nodded in understanding, "We all need me-time,"
"Thanks," I waved and then quickly got in the car and drove off.
I followed the GPS to the address Alina sent. It was only a 5-minute drive and a flight of stairs away from the Italian HQ and when I arrived it didn't look like the Russian mafia was hanging around. I went to the 2nd floor and knocked on the 7th door. Daniel opened the door and ushered me in. Inside where the living room normally would be was a large table with paper, guns, bullets and knives all over it.
"Took you fucking long enough," Ivan, who was leaning against the table, sighed.
"Good to see you too, uncle," I rolled my eyes and joined the group standing around the table. I nodded to Alina who was standing opposite me.
"Now that everyone's here, here's the plan," Ivan started.
Hours Later
"And that's how we'll take down the Russian mafia," Matteo told the room. I had to admit, the plan was foolproof... if they didn't have a Russian mafia member standing in their midst. "You're all dismissed," I started to leave but Matteo stopped me, "Raven," I turned.
"Yes?" I asked innocently,
"How did you know the Russians are in the area?" his eyebrows were furrowed in concentration,
"I saw the Russian woman from the ball a few streets away," I shrugged, a lie, Ivan told me to say that, "I figured she was up to no good," the truth. "She was in the warehouse I told you about," another lie.
"Good, we can finally take down our greatest threat," I nodded and then left the room before he said anything more.
Days Later
Every day, I would first go and meet with the Russian mafia to take down the Italians and then after that, I would meet with the Italians to take down the Russians. It got confusing at times and I nearly outed myself a few times but I managed to save it every time.
When I wasn't being a double agent, I spent my time keeping fit, the Italian Mafia was no joke when it came to muscle. I spent most of my days in the gym, swimming laps, or target practice. Matteo went out nearly every day, organising things for the takedown of the Russians, I barely saw him.
Though I didn't mind, it helped me get into the mindset that he was the enemy, if I had to see him every day it would be harder to betray him. The few times I saw him the only interaction we had was a kiss or a simple "Morning".
As I was working out in the gym one day, my phone rang and I reached for it, "Hello?" I asked, panting slightly,
"Raven," Daniel's voice replied,
"What is it?" I gasped, trying to slow my breathing while drinking some water,
"Do you know when the Italians are going to attack?" I bit my lip, I was the only one Matteo had told,
"Yeah, I do," I replied,
"It better be soon, I'm bored,"
"You've got Alina, do something with her!" I scoffed,
"Ivan's banned us from leaving," I scoffed again and rolled my eyes, "So when is the attack happening?" Daniel got me back on topic,
"Matteo said the 13th," I shrugged, "So a week?"
"The 13th..." Daniel sighed, the sound of paper flicking told me he was looking at a calendar, "That's tomorrow, Raven," my breath hitched in my throat and I tried not to let Daniel hear it. I hadn't realised how quickly time was travelling. Matteo had told us at the initial meeting that we had a month until the attack.
"Tomorrow?" my voice cracked slightly and I cleared my throat,
"Yeah... are you alright?" he questioned me,
"Yeah, fine," I lied, "Just didn't realise it was so close,"
"We'll see you tomorrow then," I could almost hear Daniel's smile,
"Alright, tomorrow," I hung up the phone and then sat down on a nearby bench. I had no idea if I was mentally or emotionally ready to betray the people that had taken me in, had trusted me, and had shared their secrets with me for nearly a year! I took a deep breath and told myself I would spend the rest of the day meditating, away from the Italians, to prepare myself.
So that's just what I did, I took my lunch and dinner in my room and meditated; I lay on the ground, I stared at the beautiful scenery, I stretched, anything to keep my mind off the next day. When the sun began to set, I watched it slowly dip below the horizon, and then I showered, changed and slid under the cold sheets to sleep.
Slowly, slowly my eyes began to droop close and I yawned slightly. Then I let my eyes close and I drifted to sl-
The sound of my door opening snapped me away. I stayed still, wanting whoever had opened my door to leave. The door clicked as the person closed it and I realised it was Matteo when he stubbed his toe and cursed in that thick, rich voice of his. I groaned inwardly and prayed he would turn around.
I was starting to have... feelings of attachment towards the leader of the Italians, feelings I couldn't have if I was to remain strong and betray him with ease. He stayed still for a few seconds and I imagined him studying me before he jogged over to the bed. He knelt down beside me and I still pretended to sleep.
"Il mio Corvo. Ti voglio bene," he whispered to me, he brushed my hair to one side and kissed me softly on the cheek. Then we went around the other side of the bed and climbed in. If I was really asleep I wouldn't have realised he did. I barely even did until his muscular arm snaked around my waist and pulled me close. I smiled softly and allowed myself to relax into his warm embrace, knowing that the next day I would have to shoot him...
