After the frenzies calmed down, Coach Alvaro gave us a quick end of the game pep talk to congratulate us! After that, we did what every good spirited team does, we took the whole Kalamazoo team out for ice cream to celebrate a great game! At the diner, every one congratulated me on the winning goal. I don't know how, or why, but the diner had a huge plasma screen TV mounted to the wall. It turned on suddenly, and a soccer game was playing. I wasn't paying much attention since I was having such a great time cooling down with the heavenly frozen treat, but then someone shouted,
" Hey Smiley! You are on TV!!"
I quickly snapped my head around to see, and there in the middle of the green field was a player chipping the ball into the goal. I was gob- smacked! My jaw dropped a lot further than I thought humanly possible! J I turned my head, my jaw still practically touching the floor, as I faced my friends.
" Congratulations Kayli Felton for making the winning goal, and the whole L.A. Dragons team for winning the championship!" the news lady said. "I'm Kristy Kelly reporting from the Hope Complex for Michigan 1 News. Back to you, Jim!"
"WAIT...Whoa.. Whoaa... WAIT...WHAT!?" I spun my head back just to see the last part of what Kristy was saying.
" Hey we made State-wide news!!!" Someone yelled!
"State-wide news. WOW!" I muttered under my breath. This day couldn't get any better, I thought.
On the ride home, as I snuggled into my comfy seat, I was thinking of the great team I have. I realized something today, like I've always known it, but relearned it today. There is no "I" in team! Without every single person on our team we probably wouldn't have won! It just goes to show you how a team of friends, who have now become family, can accomplish anything if they stick together, play hard, never give up and trust God!
I was so tired I fell right to sleep. But the last thing I remember was thinking I probably needed new cleats after this, and that I had a smile that stretched across my face from the Red Wood Forest to the New York Islands.
