As new CEO of Vought, Homelander never felt more under pressure. The most dire rescue mission didn't stress him out this much, although if he was being honest, it didn't affect him much whether he succeeded or not. More if people knew that if he couldn't succeed, the mission was impossible.
"Well obviously I didn't realize the little bitch was recording me, did I?" He spits at Ashley on the phone, who right now was about as useful as planned to him.
"Of course not Homelander, but-" she began before he interrupted her
"No. No! A- Ashley, I don't fucking care. You're the "Spin Doctor" so go fucking, spin it." He orders, hanging up.*beep*
Irritated at hearing the phone again, and knowing it's not Ashley since she'd know better than to continue to irritate him, he picks up.
"What?" He barks
"Sir, I apologize for disturbing you, but you have a call." The unimportant phone operator says on the other side of the line "He says he's...well he's claiming to be Soldier Boy."
He frowns. After hesitating for a moment, he says "Put him through.." he places the phone on speaker
"This really you?" He asks the possible fraud
"The situation's changed." Soldier Boy says, on the other side. "I thought we should have a conversation."
"I don't know who the fuck you think you are," Homelander says, disregarding what he heard "but you got lucky, once. Because you fucking ambushed me."
"Fall, 1980." He interrupts "I get called into Vogelbaum's lab for an experiment. Some shit about genetics. I still remember the penthouse I used. June, Danielle DeNoe, bush like a Pomeranian."
"...What?" Homelander says, totally lost in what this conversation is about.
"I beat my meat into a cup." Soldier Boy clarifies "Turns out, Vogelbaum made a kid, born spring, 1981. A boy."
A short pause for Homelander to click it together.
"You know what the bitch of it is?" He says "If they'd just kept me around, I would've let you take the spotlight. What father wouldn't want that for his son?" He asks rhetorically.
Silence follows. Neither one says anything for a few minutes, letting it sink in.
"Buddy, you still there?" Soldier Boy asks
"How do I know you're not lying?" He says, finally.
"I assume there'd be tests for that now, enough crazy broads have been trapping us since the beginning of time so I would've thought we'd come up with something to nip that in the bud."
"You wanna take a paternity test?" Homelander asks
"Paternity test, yes. Perfect. I know a few fellas who could've used something like that." He chuckles.
"Come to Vought tomorrow at 9 am, in your secret identity. Can't have people seeing you in all your Soldier Boy getup." Homelander orders, still digesting that this may be his father.
