Chapter 2
I woke up to Dekel shaking me, waking me up. It had been three weeks since I had arrived here at the Concentration Camp. Nothing exciting barely ever happens thus, I wondered why Dekel was so excited when he woke me up. "Hayalah! Wake up! They gave us food!" he exclaimed.
"Wait..." I said, still trying to wake up "how much food? and of what?"
"It's three slices of bread and two spoiled grapes."
"Seriously? We haven't gotten that much in a week and a half!"
We split the food equally and ate in silence. It had been like this every time we had gotten food, which wasn't very often. Usually it was only bread crusts or a small spoiled banana but, today we had been gifted with more food than we would usually recieve. Each day we had recieved food we would split it and eat our food in silence. The rest of the day, we wouldn't talk much. Every once in a while we would talk about if we would ever have a relationship. Usually, we would come to the conclusion that we would figure it out as soon as this stupid war was over.
Once we finished our food for the day, we were shocked by the locked door of our cell, flinging open and the Monsters throwing in a a girl. Not just any girl. This girl, was my best friend. Emelah.
As soon as they closed the door, I ran towards her. " Emelah! Your here! How's mom? How's the town? Are they okay? Are you okay? Who else have they taken? Is anyone else dead? Is your family okay?"
As I was rambling on and on, she could barely even realize it was me. I could see why. I had lost well over 10-15 lbs., I had Dekel cut my hair with a piece of glass we found in the cell all the way up to my shoulders, I had been crying a lot lately, so my eyes were red and puffy. But, I had so many questions for Emelah. Eventually, she covered my mouth with her hand to shut me up and said, "I'm sorry, who are you?"
I looked at her and smiled. " You held my hand as I cried on your shoulder...When we watched Asher..." I said, trying my best to hold back the tears.
She looked at me for a couple seconds. Then she slowly walked over to me. "Hayalah? Is that really you?"
"Yes. It really is me. So, is everyone in the town alright?"
"Oh, God. Hayalah, your mom... they killed her..."
I looked at her and slowly my bright shining smile turned into a tears. The past couple of weeks I had been so strong. But, in that single moment, all the hurt poured out of me. My mom was gone, Asher was gone, and the only relative I knew for sure was alive was "uncle Adolf". The world had basically gone to hell. I knew I wasn't alone though. I had Dekel who promised he would protect me, and now I have Emelah. Emelah and I would never get into a fight.
After a while of processing the news, I sucked up the tears and introduced Emelah to Dekel.
"So, remember that one time I told you Asher told me he had a twin I would love?"
"Of course I remember. You wanted to set me up with him."
"Yeah" I said with a mischevious smirk across my face "Emelah, this is Dekel. Asher's brother"
She stared at Dekel in awe. I was too, the first time I realized he was Asher's brother. Truthfully, I wanted to be with Dekel. I couldn't tell him though. How could I tell him? Asher had recently died, he's Asher's brother, I can't even tell if I actually like him or I like the fact that he is excatly like Asher. I just.... don't know anymore. God, I think I love him... Maybe, someday. Someday....
