Genevieve leaves, and I head down for dinner.
One of the maids catches up to me 'Good evening miss, I suppose you know what day it is tomorrow?' I nod, and she shoots me an apologetic smile as if that is going to make it any better.
'When you wake up tomorrow morning the guards will be guarding the room and the first few will be seated in your room.' I roll my eyes, I don't understand why I have to be so securely guarded, 'Now miss, there will be a new guard alongside you at all times. He is in training, but you know his father as one of the best, so he will be a great guard.'
'Thank you for telling me this. Who is the new guard?' Sadly I think I know what is coming, 'Sir Irvin Songwise, Son of Alaric Songwise.'
'Aha, thank you for telling me. You may leave now.' The maid hurries away and leaves me pissed.
I barge into the dining hall hoping to change guards, but I see the Songwises sitting at our table, 'Good evening Adira, it's a pleasure seeing you today.' sit down hoping they get the hint, but they're as oblivious as can be and spark the conversation again.
'I'm sure you've heard already, but in case you haven't, Irvin will be your guard for the coming week.' My father says proudly.
'That was actually what I wanted to talk to you about father. I do not want Irvin Wisesong as my guard.' I say smirking.
I'm hoping he fires Irvin, but it appears his ego is too big to care as he ignores my comment and starts a conversation with Alaric.
My mother does acknowledge my comment, 'How come you don't want him as your guard sweetie?'
I notice Irvin listening very attentively to our conversation, 'Irvin and I haven't had the greatest start.'
I smirk hoping I pissed off Irvin at least a little bit and it seems to be working because he looks kind of pissed.
After dinner, I leave as fast as possible and Irvin follows.
'Why would you say that, especially with everyone around. Do you know how fucking embarrassing that is?' He starts to yell and it makes me feel bad for saying the things I said.
'Because why the fuck not, it's the truth what am I supposed to do lie to my parents. you know damn well neither one of us wants to spend the coming week together.' Now I'm getting pissed off, I don't want to be stuck with him.
'Also what did you do yesterday? when I went home I got the announcement that I am not getting married anymore.' He says in a softer tone, I laugh 'I paid her parents more than yours would and called the wedding off.'
He walks towards me and slings his arms over my shoulders, 'thanks.' he whispers.
I push him off of me and rush to my room 'I'll see you tomorrow.' I quickly say before shutting my door.
The next morning I wake up to complete darkness in my room and 3 guards standing around my bed, I knew what was coming but they still scared me, I say hi to them and rush into the bathroom where I'm met with Irvin's face.
'Good morning miss.' he says trying to keep his laugh contained, 'shut up and leave the room so I can get dressed.' I say in a pissed-off tone, I know he probably isn't allowed to leave the room but I can always try.
'Sorry, but I'm not allowed.' I sigh ' then stand in that corner, with your eyes facing the wall.'
He does as I say and I get dressed.
I leave the bathroom as fast as I can and start walking to the library hoping to get some distance between us, but he catches up to me in no time.
'Stop trying to avoid me, you can't leave my sight for even one second or I'll be dead.' I laugh 'you weren't looking at me in the bathroom and I'm still here.'
He stays silent, perfect.
I'm already sick of this week and I haven't even been awake for twenty minutes, I get to the library and walk to the section my dad doesn't want me to read from.
I look at the small bookcase with about 7 books in it, one of them is the biggest book I have seen in my life.
I grab the massive book and sit down by the window, Irvin sits on the chair opposite of mine.
I start reading but after the first page, Irvin interrupts my peaceful moment.
'We shouldn't be sitting so close to the window.' i look up at him and his dark brown eyes meet mine, 'and why?' i ask, so first I'm not allowed to go outside, and now I'm not even allowed to sit by the window.
'i can't say, it's dangerous.' of course it is, 'it can't be that dangerous, watch.'
I lift my arm and put it out the window, 'now that wasn't so ba-' my sentence gets cut short by the worst pain I have ever felt shooting through my arm and hand.
Irvin rushes my arm back inside and when I collect the courage to open my eyes and look at it I notice that it's covered in small scars and is getting a faint blue color.
Shit, I don't know what I've done but I've fucked up.
'Fuck Adira, you know you shouldn't.' I try to respond but the only thing leaving my mouth is silent sobs, Irvin picks me up and carries me to the corner of the library, just when we leave the view of the door I hear angry yells go past.
'Shit they must've heard you yell, how are you feeling?' all I can think to do is grab him by the collar and silently yell 'What the fuck just happened to me? Does that happen to you as well? What is going on? Tell me or ill fucking jump out of the window and get you in trouble.'
Irvin looks guilty and I start to feel bad again, but before I can say sorry he pushes the big book I was reading before into my hands, 'read, everything you want to know is answered in here.'
He sits next to me and stays silent, I start reading.

'Oh god, they've been hiding this from me all of these years.' my eyes start to fill with tears, I'm so angry at my parents for hiding something like this from me, 'Adi, you have to understand it was to keep you save.'
Irvin puts his arm over my shoulder and pulls me closer, I push him off of me and stand up.
'No, this whole time I could've done something to help and everyone has been hiding it from me.' Tears start rolling down my cheeks and I can't contain them anymore I drop to the ground and start sobbing, Irvin tries to say something but the sound of me crying drowns out any other noise.
