When I woke up, I asked my father to take me to the sation with him. When he refused, I knew that I had no choice but to tell him about what I had found out and all the lies that the suspects have told.
"You're saying that Camilla stole a ring from the crime scene so Paul and his wife are looking for it. Mrs Hudson might have left her house last night and Jared couldn't have seen Mr Miller from his music room window?"
"I'm sorry dad, I know that I shouldn't interfere with investigations but I just thought you should know that".
"It's totally fine dear, you did a great job and I'm proud of you. I'll have them take Paul and Karen to the station and I'll look into that ring".
When we arrived to the station, we found Paul and his wife waiting for dad.
"I'll take it from here Kevin".
"What is going on Sir? We were about to leave town".
Camilla came in at that moment and Paul directly saw that attractive gold ring with what seemed to be a real diamond".
Paul shouted: "You lying arrogant frog face, give me back that ring".
Karen whispered to his ear: "Take it easy we'll do this outside".
Camilla put hand behind her back and hid the ring, afraid to be asked about it. But dad directly grabbed her hand and said: "Where did you get this from".
"It's my sister's, you have no right to take it away from me".
"No it's my brother who bought it, it legally belongs to me". Paul interrupted
"Hold on a minute, take off the ring Miss. You stole evidence from a crime scene and we will not go easy on you". Dad ordered Camilla and she took off the ring. Dad had brought a specialist to analyse it. He came out of his office moments later and asked the three suspects: "What is it with this ring?"
Paul answered: "It's from the fourteenth century and it's worth millions".
His wife pinched him: "Paul!"
He replied to her: "As if they're not going to find that out".
Dad smiled and said to them: "The ring isn't worth anything, it's fake".
Everyone was chocked and Camilla was the first to react: "No way!"
"I got a specialist who analysed it. He says it's a copy and it was made less than a month ago. The diamond is glass, the whole ring is fake".
All of them looked very disappointed. They were blinded by greed. They didn't shed a tear for the loss of their closed ones. They just wanted the ring and they were obviously tricked by whoever took the original one and replaced it.
The neighbours arrived at the same time because Jared had given Mrs Hudson a ride. My father asked Jared first, about where he saw Mr Miller from. He was honest and he told him that it was around the time he came to the kitchen to take a snack and looked through the window.
"What time was it?"
"I really am not sure, I didn't check the clock but it was around 11 pm, I know that I was in my music room at midnight and I heard fireworks".
"Fireworks? Yes right! We were too busy with the case to remember that this is the first day of a new year". He continued: "What about you Mrs Hudson-".
I didn't wait for Mrs Hudson to talk, I had to take the opportunity and go back to the Miller's house while there was nobody there. I walked so fast and started to run. I arrived and there was only one police car. The door was closed from the outside but I had taken the main key from Karen's pocket when she had left her coat on the chair.
I got in and I was surprised to see that the doors actually had locks from the inside that were impossible to open from the outside. The one on the main door was broken when Kevin had forced it. There doesn't have to be a key. There was a pet flap in that door but it was an impossible situation for a human being to fit through, and there was no way for someone's hand to reach the handle or lock through that slot. They were high. The only solution I could come up with, was that the killer stayed inside the house and sneaked out after the police arrived. Or, someone had shot them and vanished in thin air ...
I went to their office; it was stunningly decorated. Paintings on the walls and plants near the windows. Two chairs behind the desk and a typewriter with a blank paper. I didn't count them, but there might have been a hundred. All by The Millers. They must have loved their job.
I started to imagine what could have happened: Mr and Mrs Miller took some white papers in order to start working on a new story. It was almost midnight when someone knocked the door. They both went downstairs to see who might have visited them at almost midnight. One of them opens the door and gets shot in the head while the other was right behind and got shot in the head too. The mystery man or woman went to replace the ring and waited for the next morning to leave in the middle of the mess.
I felt hungry so I went to the kitchen to eat something. I opened the fridge, took a banana and then I saw a pack of dog food before I closed it. I hadn't seen a dog there the day before; so I looked for a bowel and I found it at the end of the hallway. They had pinned their keys on the wall beside the door along with the dog's whistle. I stood on a chair to reach it and then sat down and whistled for the dog to come. I could use some company while looking for more evidence in the house.
The lovely dog finally came through the slot; it was a Golden retriever dog and found me sitting on the ground eating the banana. He didn't give me a moment; he directly took the fruit from my hands with his teeth and went out the same way he came. I got up and followed him. I ran after him for more than twenty minutes until i started to get a little lost. When I finally stopped to catch my breath, I saw him digging on the snowy ground in an empty place near the woods (no houses around), then he threw my banana in the sewer system and threw snow on it. I had noticed some blood on his paws even though there was no fresh blood left in the house after clearing the crime scene. I got closer to the drainage and saw some things; some toys and kitchen supplies. But then I saw them, two identical real guns thrown down there.
