A New Rose

Scene 4

Rose is sitting in a table alone, eating her food. The ' important people' are in the table next to her, they are all talking to each other except for a girl, Summer, she is staring intensely at Rose.

At the important table :
Malia – " this school isn't that bad after all "
Aster – " yeah, except that the food is horrible "
Brian – " you're right, I mean what is this ? "
Brian starts to move his food with the spoon
Luis – " I'd love a cheeseburger right now "
Carl – " maybe with some fries and a cola "
Luis – " dude it would be awesome "
The table goes quiet
Marta – " what are you looking at ? "
Summer replies to Marta not looking away from Rose
Summer – " this food taste like shit, and I'm surprise if anyone would eat it. But that girl is devouring it "
They all look at Rose
Luis – " geez, how can she do that ? "
Brian – " has she ever tasted real food ? "
Aster – " and why does she eat that fast? Doesn't she eat at home? "
Malia – " guys stop! She probably just like it. By the way, why is she alone? Doesn't she have any friends? "
Brian – " it doesn't seem so "
Summer – " I'm going to keep her company "
Summer is about to get up when a girl walks over to Rose's table
Luis – " oh so she has friends "

At Rose's table
Girl – " ahah look, the fat girl is eating again. You should stop or you'll get fatter. Bitch "
At the important table
Marta – " or maybe not "
Everyone is now looking at Rose
At Rose's table
Rose stops eating and look down
Girl – " yeah, go to your mommy. Oh right, she won't listen to you because she's a fucking alcoholic. Oh wait, is that a bruise on your neck? oh poor thing. "
The girl starts to pull Rose's hair
Summer – " that's enough "
Summer gets up and goes over to where Rose is
Summer – " you better go of her hair or I'll have a talk with the principal "
The girl looks up and sees Summer
Girl – " I'm so sorry mrs. Roden "
The girl lets go of Rose's hair and walks away
Summer sits down with Rose
Summer – " you ok girl ? "
Rose – " yeah. Thanks "
All the other ' important people ' sit with Rose and Summer
Marta – " what's your name ? "
Rose – " um, Rose. Rose Longville "
Summer – " i'm Summer and this is- "
Rose – " I know who you are, all of you. I-I'm a big fan of yours "
Everyone smiles as Rose looks down shyly
Carl – " you were amazing on the stage before "
Rose looks up smiling
Rose – " I was? "
Brian – " of course! Your voice is amazing "
Rose – " thank you "
Aster – " hey doll can I ask you something ? "
Rose – " yeah "
Aster – " how could you possibly eat this food? Is disgusting "
Rose – " oh, I hate this but is the only meal I eat in a day so I'm always too hungry to care about the taste "
Malia – " what do you mean is the only meal you have? Don't you eat at home? "
Rose – " nope "
Everyone is shocked about the reply
Summer – " honey, why don' you - ?"
While she's speaking, Summer puts Rose's hair behind her ear for seeing her face better.
Rose quickly cuts her off
Rose – " please don't "
Rose puts her hair back down hoping no one saw the bruise, but it was too late, everyone saw it.
Marta – " OMG sweetie what happened ? "
Rose – " nothing I'm fine, I just fell from my bed "
Luis – " and you think we buy that? You have bruise on your neck too "
The table is quiet for a few seconds
Summer is suspicious and tries to grab Rose's hand under the table, as she does that Rose flinches.
Summer looks at Rose in a worried way
Rose – " I'm sorry, what time is it ? "
Malia – " it's 13.15, why ? "
Rose – " shit I have to go "
Rose gets up quickly, she gets her backpack and runs out.
Summer – " Rose wait " * she gets up but Rose is already out *
Everyone looks at each other with confused looks
Summer sits back
Summer – " there is something wrong "
Carl – " maybe she just really fell from the bed "
Summer – " no, no there's something bigger. I tried to take her hand and she flinched "
Marta – " do you think ? "
Summer and Marta look at each other
Summer – " exactly "
Marta – " we have to follow that girl "
Summer and Marta get up and start walking
Aster – " we aren't getting it, what are you talking about ? "
Summer turns around and face the table
Summer – " Home abuse "
Brian – " shit "
They all get up and exit for follow Rose
