"I have a present for you." He smiled at her.

"You didn't have to buy me anything!" She mumbled, shaking her head. The two children sat in a hammock in the back of the girl's garden.

"Close your eyes!" The boy demanded, taking her hands. She did how he had said and shut her eyes. The boy nervously placed the necklace in her palms. He hoped she'd like it. The girl opened her eyes and looked at the necklace in her small hands with wide eyes. It was silver with a small penguin, her favourite animal.

"It's beautiful. Thank you so much!" She squealed. "Can you please help me to put it on?"

He took the necklace again and placed it around her neck. "I bought it, so you'll always wear something that reminds you of me. Please don't forget about me." He whispered, trying to hold back his tears as he hugged her tightly.

"Ash, I would never forget about you. You mean too much to me." She smiled at him weakly.

"I don't want you to go." He mumbled.

"Please, Ash! I know! Don't make it even harder for me!" She groaned, silently crying.

"I'm sorry, Sky! Don't cry! We can Skype and text and call each other. It'll be okay." He whispered, wiping her tears. Before he was able to say anything else, her mom shouted from the now empty house at the young girl to hurry up. She sighed, grabbing her bag.

"You're the bestfriend I've ever had, Ash. I love you." She whispered.

"I love you, too." He replied. They walked to the driveway, holding hands. The girl waved goodbye at him and got into the back of the car. The boy sat down on the sidewalk and watched the car drive down the street until he couldn't see it anymore, tears rolling down his cheeks.
