I open the door the door of the cafe, the little bell rings as I step inside. It's almost empty, except for the blonde looking down at his phone, sitting at the same table we sat at last time. I pull out the chair. He looks up from his phone and smiles.
"Hi"
"Hi, you look like you've had a great morning so far." I laugh. He has on black sweatpants, a grey t-shirt, Nike slides and his hair flat, probably hasn't been washed today yet.
"Eh, it was a pretty fun one, first I woke up late, then I forgot to put my clothes in the dryer last night so I didn't have any dry pants, then the dog peed on the floor, because I didn't wake up to let him out, and then after all that fun stuff, my car wouldn't start." He rambles off.
"Oh" I notice that there's toothpaste on his shirt."You got some, Um" I point to the toothpaste.
He looks down and scratches at it. "Sorry"
"Well I hope your day gets better"
"It already has" He smiles.
"So whats the next thing we're talking about?"
"I guess what like makes us sad and mad and stuff. Kinda like things we hate, sorta"
"I've got lots, we're gonna be here a while Hemmings." He laughs.
"Lady's first"
"Um, I hate sunny days." I start.
"Blythe, really?" He interrupts me.
"What? Like I don't hate sunny days, It's just that I would rather have a rainy day over a sunny one. You know? "
"Blythe, I'm not talking about like little hates like rain, I mean like what really makes you mad, what makes you not fall asleep at night cos you're so mad at this thing, you know stuff like that." He explains.
"Luke, I really dislike sunny days."
"Okay, sunny days equal not happy days for Blythe." He laughs.
"Um, I hate that Ashton jumps to conclusions way to quick. Like he won't ever let me explain the situation he just jumps to worst case scenario and that's it, there's no getting it through to him."
"Is that why you were mad when I called yesterday?" I nod.
The waitress, the same lady as last time sets down two cups on the table, one in front of Luke and the other in front of me. Its the tea I ordered last time.
"How long have you guys been dating?" Luke takes a sip from his cup the sets it down quickly and touches his hand to his his mouth. "It's hot, be careful."
I blow on my tea. "Four years" It seems to be saying that. In some ways it doesn't feel like it's been that long but in other ways it seems like a lot longer than four years. "He asked me to homecoming freshmen year, then after homecoming we all went to Denny's and he asked me out there." He nods like he already knows all this. "Your turn" I turn the spoon in my tea and blow on it, cooling it off a bit.
"I guess I hate that my dad can't pay for a therapist for me."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry? It's his fault, and it's not even that he can't afford it, it's just that he doesn't want to. I mean like whats the point of paying for stuff your son that you left to go build a new family." The tension in his voice growing. "You know if it were any of his other kids he'd be right there, maybe through in a new car too with that, whatever they want, but when it comes to me, nope won't even send my mom any child support. " He pounds his fist against the table. "I don't even know where he lives."
