"garrett, can you hand me harris's blanket?", i asked. i was sat on the couch, feeding our daughter while garrett was doing some chores around the apartment. he handed me her blanket over the back of the couch. i wrapped the blanket around harris as i finished feeding her. i burped her and she began to yawn. her eyes fell closed and her tiny fingers closed into fists. i brought harris to her room and laid her in her crib to sleep, hoping she would sleep a while longer than usual. as i left the room, closing the door behind me, garrett came up to me, pressing a kiss to my lips.

"what's that all about?", i asked, laughing quietly, so as not to wake the baby.

"what? i need a reason to kiss my girlfriend?", he asked.

"of course not"

i pulled him back down, kissing him again.

"come on, maybe, if we're lucky, harris will sleep for a few hours longer than normal"

"i was thinking the same thing"

garrett grabbed my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. he pulled me down onto the bed with him, beginning to kiss my jaw, moving down to my neck.

"what are you doing?", i asked, pulling away slightly.

"what? nothing"

"you're up to something. what is it?"

"i've been thinking lately-"

"oh no. that's never a good start to a sentence with you"

"no, no. listen. hear me out on this"

"okay, okay. what is it?"

"harris is adorable"

"that's what you've been thinking about?"

"there's more. what if...we made another one?"

"another...baby?"

"yeah, why not?"

"first, we don't have the space. second, we don't have the money. third, harris is only 6 months old. we don't have the time for a second one right now. in the future, definitely. but right now...it's just not plausible right now"

garrett was understanding and pulled me into his arms again, just holding me. after about 5 minutes, i heard harris crying over the baby monitor. i went to get up, but garrett stopped me.

"i'll get her. don't worry"

he gently kissed my forehead and went to take care of our daughter. i could hear him talking through the baby monitor and smiled as i listened to him.

"hi baby. what's going on? oh, i see. let's get you changed. you know, mommy and i love you so much. you are our pride and joy. we love more than anything else. and we love watching you grow more everyday. we love you baby girl", he said. i heard him kiss her forehead and then he closed the door, walking back to our room.

"one year", i said.

"what?", he asked, confused.

"after harris turns one, we can try for another"

"really?!"

"really"
