Part 1
RAY
THE PAST
"Look at me. Look at me Ray and hear me out."
She tries to get me to face her but I keep shaking my head, avoiding her gaze, refusing to look at her. This moment is one that I survived years ago. That time I wasnt really present when she was on the verge of dying but today, I fear that nightmare becoming reality. Losing the most important woman of my life. The one who gave me life, the one who fought with everything she had to safeguard my life. To give me a complete and happy family because she thought I deserve the world.
"RAY MACK MARSHALL! LISTEN TO ME!"
Grabbing my face firmly, she orders in a loud and clear enough one to let me know that she's very serious at the moment. Unwillingly, I meet her pained red eyes.
No more running from the truth.
I know that this time no one can protect me from getting hurt. Not even Dad.
I have to face this harsh moment.
The look in her teary eyes are of pure love and concern with a small hint of regret. Still ignoring her own pain, she speaks in a much lighter and doting tone. "You are the reason I found happiness and love. No matter what happens. No matter where I am, where you are, I will always love you Ray. You will always be my baby. I will always look out for you. Promise me you will fight this. Promise me you will be strong. Dont give up without a fight. Promise me!"
"I promise you to be strong. To take care of everyone. Even dad, but yooo" I dont think I have anymore strength to even pretend why we are having this conversation. I let it out as I feel the tears that I have been holding back finally escape my eyes. "Mum. Dont do this to me. Dont leave me mum!"
"I can't.. I cant leave you ever. I will always be with you, my little rabbit."
"May be just not physically. But I will always be with you."
"Mum, y."
"Shhh." She places her hand on my lips stopping me from saying anything more, I see her lips form a weak smile. "Just take care of yourself for me."
Dont leave me Mum.
Dont leave me Mum..
Dont leave me Mum
Please dont leave me Mum.
I dont want to lose you.
Please dont die.
I need you. I always need you.
I keep saying, chanting in my mind as I hold on her hand as tight as I can. Soon she starts coughing as a little blood comes out of her mouth. Looking at Mum's condition, Dad going pale and I know we're bad. We're very bad.
Turning her face from me to Dad, Mum flashes a weak smile as she places her trembling hand on Dad's tear stained cheek. "Pumkpin!" His voice choked.
"I I.. I'm going to haunt you forr.. forever! You cc.. cant get rid. Rid of.. Of Mee!" Mum's sad voice states she'll never leave my Dad.
"You better!
I love you Amyra!" Dad said as he makes his and Mum's forehead touch after a kiss.
Mum didnt get the chance to reply him that day.
THE PRESENT
Years ago I moved to Adelaide, Australia with my entire family. There were few major problems where we lived earlier which is why we had to shift. After moving and settling down here, everything changed. For me personally, it was the best thing that could happen to me. Along with my younger brother and sister, life has been just perfect to me in Adelaide. Having the best parents ever, a loving family and two younger siblings whom I have spoiled and bully from time to time as well. The best kind of childhood a child can ask for. The one my Mum and Dad fought so hard to give me and my siblings.
