Ben Hope:The Tree

You close the book and practically shove it back into your bag.Ben was being a knob today and it didn't sit right with your already souring mood.You check the notifications on your phone,A text from Ben."Where are you??" it read.You toss around the thought of responding.You just sighed and stood up off the ground of the library.You sling your bag around your shoulder and walk out of the school library and out into the corridor.You knew something was dastardly wrong with Ben,First it was when you saw him at the banquet with some girl you didn't recognize you didn't want to admit it but something about that girl made your blood boil.You didn't have any feelings for Ben.Or Did You?  You walk down to the door and swing it open before you suddenly hear a blunt smack."Oh you bloody son of a-" Ben barked and grabbed his face."Sorry" you say rushing over to him.He moved his hands and he was actually fine except for a crescent shaped bruise forming on his left cheekbone."I'm not bleeding am I?"  he looked at his fingers."No"  "Well that's quite the way for me to find you,Did you even get my text?".Your thoughts screamed no "Uh...Yeah,I did". "Surprising you didn't reply" He grabbed your hand.A shock suddenly rippled through you.You hiccuped randomly.His eyes widened."Now what's up with you?" he said guiding you towards the field."Fine!" you blurted to him clutching his hand tighter.he just scoffed."Lets go" "Where?"   "We can walk around the park or something" he says not looking back at you.You and Ben walked out of school and were walking on the sidewalk.He didn't look back at you but he wore an emotionless look."How's your day so far?" you mumble."Huh?"  "How's your day been?"   "Same,Boring is all it is"  "Oh" you feel like you just shrank.You almost regret asking him,To be honest he didn't look the brightest at the moment.You and Ben walked right into the park without a word between each other which left you thinking if he just dragged you here to be silent and watch him be mopey for the rest of the afternoon.You readjust your bag strap trying not to shift your hand which was still wrapped in Ben's.You were somewhat wary that someone would make a comment about it or someone from school would see and next thing you know your the months gossip."Look at that bird" Ben exclaimed finally breaking the silence and his temporary RBF.He points to a large bird feeder in the tree above where a bird with periwinkle blue feathers and a white little mohawk at the top of its head."There's bird feeders here?" "There sure is mate" "Let's sit down there" Ben points to the bottom of the tree."What are we even gonna do here?" you laugh in question."Speak with each other" he says sitting down before he looks you dead ass in the eyes and you feel a flutter flood your lower stomach.You swallow but just nervously smile at him."What do you even wanna talk about?"   "The fact you didn't tell me you went to this benefit night with Harry" he grinned,The grin was a little offsetting and you couldn't weigh out if he meant that in a good or bad way.Play Dumb,Play Dumb."You were there?" you stutter."Yes I was there" he raised an eyebrow at you."Oh,well I didn't see you there" you say trying to think of something to change the subject.He tilted his head slightly to the side still looking straight into your eyes like he was trying to hypnotise you."What were you doing with Harry?" Ben said changing his criss cross sitting position."What are you even trying to get at?"   "You've been sneaking around with him quite a lot"   "We haven't!" "You really think Im that ignorant to not see you and him are clearly more than friends" Ben says,His tone becoming upset."I wouldn't date him Ben" you say desperately hoping that with enough lying to him he would believe it."Why does it concern you anyway?" you say getting up and grabbing your bag and begin angrily walking away with your back turned to him."Because I'd like to know!" Ben shouts and grabs your shoulder.You stop walking.He comes in front of you and puts his other hand on your shoulder."I don't care if your dating but-"   "You clearly do care if you're bugging me about it!"  "Its because Harry isnt gay and he's probably playing with your feelings just so he can make you feel terrible" Ben says loosening the grip on your shoulders."Don't act,You play with the feelings of every girl you get with!"   Ben went silent and speechless.You move out of his way and walk towards the park exit without looking back at Ben.You didn't even have an answer to that,You didn't even know if Harry truly consider you and him dating.
