Jeon Jungkook lived in a bullied and awful existence wrought with hardship. His mother was a known drug addict and his father was gone. He was a punching bag to the many boys of his school, too meek to defend himself, and too timid to ask for help. It was a way of life, he discovered, to deal with the taunting and hatred, and learn to live with it. There was nothing he could do, and fighting it was not worth the energy.

Until suddenly everything stopped. The name calling, the bullying, the bruises, and the lies, but with it went kinship and companions who suddenly left Jungkook in their dust. His life shifted in the span of two days to a different kind of horrible, rather than picked on he was completely ignored, and Jungkokk wasn't sure what was worse.

Out of nowhere Jungkook became off limits. Suddenly everyone seemed to know that. The football team and the Cheerleaders. The nerds and the jocks. The teachers and the students. Jungkook former friends and former bullies. It was like Jungkook woke up one day and just ceased to exist. It was a death without mourners, and something he never thought would be so difficult. Jungkook knew it was happening, saw everything slip away, but what he didn't know was why. There was a reason, however, and that reason was
Kim Taehyung.

was by all accounts the most heartless, and unfeeling jerk to ever walk the halls of Boston Central High School. However, he was captain of the football team, and therefore the school worshiped him like royalty. Taehyung never did favors for anyone, not his friends, and not his family. He was a certified mess, known to lash out or lose his temper with a moments notice. The school lived in fear of him and his notorious ways. Most infamous was his shallow possessive nature. Part of the reason Taehyung never did nice things was because he didn't like to share. He'd removed his co-captain on the team, and refused to split time with a backup quarterback.

Taehyung wanted to be front and center always. He wanted all the attention, and he was not going to share it. Nor was he going to share anything else. His teammates knew not to ask to borrow his equipment, water bottles, food, or anything else. Simply put, those things were his, and that was how he liked for it to stay, and he always got what he wanted.

Despite his aggressive nature Kim Taehyung proved to be not without any heart in an act of compassion he neglected to fully think through. Jeon Jungkook had been walking to class when another boy on the team had pushed his book from his hands and began to taunt the small boy. Tehyung hadn't expected to care, as this wasn't something that usually bothered him, but whether it was the fact that Jungkook reminded him of his brother, or , something else, Taehyung had demanded the boy stop, and picked Jungkook up from the ground.

They'd never interacted before, but
Jungkook was so grateful that his eyes lit up, and melted Taehyung's icy heart. It was out of character, but for a quick moment Taehyung wondered if he might like to be out of character more often. Then of course he fell back to his old ways as he always did. Taehyung's life was a viscous cycle of surprising and disappointing everyone in his life, in a way that he had become so detached that he barely knew himself. Taehyung wasn't sure why he minded the boys picking on Jungkook but not on anyone else, but he did, and Taehyung was not fond of explaining himself, so the boys on the team were simply demanded to stay away from Jungkook, directions that had spread to the rest of the student body like wildfire. From then on it seemed the only person permitted to talk to Jungkook was Taehyung.

An unintended consequence of Taehyung good deed was that it left Jungkook alone. Jungkook wasn't just alone at school, but at home as well. He lived with his grandparents and his wildly overprotective older brother, in the wake of familial ruin. Jungkook felt as unwanted as a bad omen. He felt like a curse to anyone who interacted with him. It hadn't worked out with his family, so why should it work out for Jungkook with anyone else. Jungkook felt like he must be omitting some kind of negative energy that worked to keep people away, and him alone.

For all these reasons Jungkook sat in the most dreadful position a student can be in, alone at lunch, feeling like everyone was staring at him with pity in their eyes.

"Hey. I just transferred here, and I don't really know anybody, can I sit here?" Jungkook was shook from his self loathing thoughts by an unfamiliar voice, connected to an unfamiliar face.

"Sure" Jungkook shrugged, "You don't have to if you don't want to..."

"I want to." The boy stated and sat down firmly in the nearby chair.

"Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound like I didn't want you here." Jungkook broke into a nervous smile. "I just didn't want you to sit here because you feel bad for me."

"Course not," The boy grinned, "I'm new too, so we're in the same boat."

"I'm not new." Jungkook frowned.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to assume that." The boy grimaced. "You were just alone, so.."

"Yeah... I'm always alone." Jungkook shrugged. "You can go sit somewhere else, if you'd rather not be by the weird kid."

"Well... Since I'm knew, I don't know anybody, I'd be sitting alone if it wasn't for you, so why don't you look at it as you doing me a favor." The boy suggested. "Besides, I'm a little weird too."

"T-Thank you. But you don't seem very strange to me."

"Tell that to the people at my old school..." The boy rolled his eyes, "I'm Nick , by the way."

"That rhymed." Jungkook chuckled slightly. "Sorry, that was lame. I'm Jungkook."

"Naw.. I thought it was funny." Nick pushed some of his black hair behind him. It was shaved at the sides, but long enough to curl at the base of his neck. "I like cheesy jokes."

"Good." Jungkook grinned. "That's the only kind I've got."

"I suppose I'm in for a treat, then." Shea matched Jungkook's expression.

"So... why'd you transfer... if you don't mind me asking.

"Um.." Nick frowned. "I was having some problems with people at my old school... but it's alright though. I was most worried about getting on the football team again, and the coach has already recruited me to try out next week."

"Your parents let you move because you were having problems at school?" Jungkook asked absentmindedly.

"No... we're sorta using my grandma's address so I can go here." Nick's brows furrowed. "Don't tell anyone I said that."

"I won't." Jungkook smiled, glad to have already earned the trust of his new friend.

...

"And then she said..." Bogum chattered on beside Taehyung, telling some story about how he'd struck out with one of the cheerleaders. Bogum was real good looking, but it seemed like he was always striking out with the girls he made attempts with. Taehyung supposed all the good genes in the world couldn't make someone smooth.

He was bored with the story, which he seemed to hear again, and again, and allowed his eyes to trail into the audience, until he spotted someone he'd been subconsciously keeping an eye out for the past few weeks. Next to the Sophomore that Taehyung had helped a few days prior was some tall boy with dark hair. Some new dark-haired boy encroaching on Taehyung's rules.

"Who is that?" Taehyung asked Bogum, as he stared at the new kid

"Who?" Bogum asked, pausing his story long enough to follow Taehyung gaze.

"That boy over there. I've never seen him before. He looks new."

"I'm sure he is. What's it to you?" Bogum asked with an eyebrow raised.

"Nothing."

"Are you sure? It seems to be bothering you?" Bogum pressed, the bravest of the boys, and the only one to ever press Taehyung.

"I just.. was surprised. That's all. I'm gonna run to the bathroom, but I'm sure the rest of the guys would love to hear your story." Taehyung stood with his tray and walked off in the direction of the garbage bins, but not before he heard Bogum perk up to finish the story of his latest failure. Everything had someone changed, yet stayed the same for Taehyung , and he wasn't sure how to feel. Taehyung didn't know who that boy was, but he didn't like him.

"You're mine."
