Rakshit

Looking at the girl on the last bench from the first one, I smiled bleakly as my friend Vicky told me she rejected another guy. It was a matter of happiness for me since I was in love with her from first I saw her. The first day was the day of attraction that gradually took the shape of love in a few months.

I sighed, remembering that she would never say yes to me though. The differences between us were huge.

Her parents were the richest people in the state, she was born with a platinum spoon, while I was struck by poverty. My mom was a homemaker and my dad was construction worker, my sister's upcoming education was not sure and my elder brother Romi had to work two shifts with dad till he found the job of a CA.

Yet they managed to get me into the most prestigious college of the city because of my scholarship which still wasn't an easy task.

Sometimes I felt I was wasting my time dreaming about her but then again I would catch up with my studies and my score would end up ranking me in the top 10.

Sometimes I behaved like a simp near her, her friends didn't like me much but she was different. She would talk nicely to me if we met anywhere her friends weren't present. Well, I love her.

But did she love me?

Vicky:- Rakshit samne dekh le. Sir aa gae hain.

Rakshit:- aj thoda chup chup nahi lag rahi?

Vicky:- Rakshit age dekh le please

Rakshit:- ye kuch bol kyu nahi rahi? Kuch time pehle to bht bol rahi thi? Drishti theek to hai na?

Vicky:- mere baap age dekh le please!!!

Rakshit:- kya hua meri Drishti ko?

Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. As I looked at the owner of the hand- I realized why she was silent all of a sudden.

Sir:- tumhari class piche lag rahi hai?

Rakshit:- sorry sir

I bowed my head as the entire class laughed.

Sir:- sorry ke bache.

Rakshit:- Chetan Shergill, sir. Mere papa ka nam Chetan Shergill hai.

I smiled

The class bursted into a louder round of laughter seeing which our professor yelled at them to be quiet and returned to his table.

Having a last glimpse of her I saw her laughing at the incident. Our eyes met and the laughter turned into another beautiful smile. She pointed towards the front telling me that sir will throw me out of the class if I continued looking back.

She noticed me.

I made her laugh.

Vicky:- mein tujhe isse zyada nahi jhel skta.

Vicky sighed.

The class went on and the teacher informed us about the last year functions which would be held this year again and warned everyone, especially Drishti, to not create any mess like the last year.

I hated when the entire class would start looking at one single person but whenever they would turn their necks to look at Drishti, that was the same feeling of irritation would turn into a delightful one.

Because I would take the opportunity to look back and steal glimpses of her without anyone noticing.

Not that no other guy liked her that way. There were several guys who tried to talk to her but she cared less. Nothing more than friendship.

Vicky:- suna hai kal ek aur ladke ka proposal reject kr dia.

His mischievous elbow started poking me as my face adapted the sweetest shade of roses, the red ones.

Rakshit:- par kya pata. Kahi mera bhi yahi hal ho.

Fear stays in a person's mind no matter how hard one tries to get rid of it. Even if the fear can be conquered, some of it still keeps chasing you until you do the task.

The sound of the bell and the sweet laughter of the angel on the last bench mixed. The students stood from their seats as our professor left and slowly, the classroom invited emptiness.

Being the last one to exit the classroom with Vicky, I shut the door while complaining to him about the professor.

Rakshit:- ek to ye sir ki timing itni kharab ki bat mat karo! Had hoti hai yar kisi bat ki. Panch minute bad aa jate to kya ho jata.

Drishti:- tab bhi agar piche hi dekh rahe hote to same cheez hoti

Recognizing the voice at an instant I turned back and saw Drishti smiling at me. That smile wasn't just a smile- it was that thief that came to my heart and knocked at its, later forcing the love to come with her. Her smile made me fall in love with her.

Drishti:- vo meri book andar reh gai thi to-

Keeping her hand on the door near me she pushed it open and flashed me a smile before entering the class.

Vicky:- Rakshit chal! Mujhe bhookh lagi hai canteen jana hai!

Damn this fellow who grabbed my collar and pulled me out as I was trying to go after her.

Vicky:- aj to kuch acha khaenge, kal ka khanna bakwas tha vaise bhi!

Rakshit:- Vicky! Hat ja. Jane de andar. Vahan Drishti hai!

Drishti Sood, the girl of my dreams. The girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with but will it ever be anything between us?

The last college year was about to end and so were my hopes of getting her in my life.

I needed to talk to her.

My eyes fell on the angel as she walked out of the class and laughed seeing Vicky dragging me through the corridor. I smiled back at her and rubbed the back of my neck, finally being noticed twice by her.
