Summary: Set in S4, but technically kinda S2 as well. Kat's the one that finds vampire Axel, and she saves him herself, before they go in search of Vanessa so she can turn him back. When they find Vanessa with a meat hook in her back, will she be okay? Can Kat get her through what she's going through, since she was a mother herself once, and also lost her daughter?

It was daytime, but the sun hadn't fully come out. The sky was still orange-ish looking. Kat was walking around, still looking for everyone. After the bunker cave in and Vanessa's loss, Kat had been searching for everyone.

Suddenly, the former vampiress saw someone in the long stretch of grass, which looked like a possible junk yard. There were car parts and abandoned cars there, but not many. There were very few of them. She wasn't sure who it was, but it gave her relief that there was a possibility that he'd made it out of the buried bunker. Axel.

She began to walk towards the person, and got her handgun ready just in case it wasn't who she thought it was. Then, when she was closer, she saw that it was definitely him. She rushed to his side, setting her gun down by her. She then rested a hand on the side of his face. She could tell that one, he'd been turned, probably when he'd been locked in the red room, and two, he hadn't eaten in a while.

"Axel? It's me, Axel. Come on. Wake up," she called to him.

After she didn't get a response, she grabbed her dagger and cut her arm. She then positioned his head back and put her wound to his lips, making her blood go down his throat.

After a few minutes, she saw him start to feed. That was until his strength was back. Then he immediately let go and sat up.

"What are you doing?"

"Saving your apparent vampire life. I can't turn back, so it was worth the effort." She patched up her wound, put her dagger and gun away, and got up before helping him up.

"We need to find Vanessa. Get her to turn me back. I don't want to be like this forever. I'd rather die than be those things," he replied.

"I've been looking for all of you, so that shouldn't be a problem," she informed him. After all, she and her elder childe both knew what it was like to not want to be a vampire. Damon hadn't been able to make the choice for his own self, and after getting used to being human, even though it sometimes sucked, she herself didn't want to be a vampire again. She was too afraid of turning into her former self if she had to be a vampiress again.

Eventually, they found her and she turned him back, but then they got separated again, so they had to find her once more.

When they found her a few nights later, she was hanging with a meat hook lodged into her back. They tried calling to her, but it seemed like she'd been there for a while. It looked even from above like she'd lost a lot of blood.

After a few minutes, they found their way in and got her on her back which was now hookless.

"We need to get her out of here. We can't take care of her here. She needs medical help. That's too much blood," Kat told him, even though she knew that he already knew that. Especially, since he had more heightened sense than she did now. And she knew what that was like. She'd dealt with that for 500 sum years.

A little while later, he was driving, while she was in the back tending to her wound and blood loss, which she succeeded in doing. Then, after a while, when she began to wake up and had healed like she was supposed to, she knew that she'd be okay.

In the end, when Vanessa had her strength back, she succeeded in turning Axel back, and Kat having once been a mother, helped her with the loss of her daughter.
