Chapter 5

Nick and Val led the two detectives into another room to inform them about the case.

"So what is it that connects these parents to Chicago?" Valentina asked Jay and Antonio as they sat down in from of her with some files.

"A year ago we had a case similar to this one with the same Hispanic couple with a little girl same age as Luna where they then 2 days disclosed they wanted nothing to do with the child" Jay said putting file out in front of Nick and Val as they took a closer look.

"Is it possible that we can get to talk with the girl?" Antonio asked looking at Val trying to be professional.

"Yeah, I talked with the nurse earlier today after I got discharged from the ICU. Luna is currently at a Foster home. I can take you to see her as she trusts me" Val explained leading Jay and Antonio out of the room and into the bullpen as her phone ringed.

"Excuse me for a moment" Val said walking away from the bullpen, answering her phone.

"Maria? Hey what's up?" Val asked concerned as she didn't expect a call from her boyfriend's ex wife.

"Zara is missing! I don't know what to do, you're the first person that came to my mind as I didn't want to call Nick" Maria said freaking out as Val could hear her heavy and fast breathing like she was hyper ventilating.

"Okay i get that, but Maria i need you to take deep breaths and tell me what happened. When was the last time you saw her?" Val asked Maria as she stressed into the bullpen again sitting down at her desk grabbing a block of paper and a pen as she started writing down everything Maria told her.

"I dropped her off at her abuelita around lunch time as I had to run some errands and when I came to pick her up this afternoon she was gone. I came in and saw abuelita sitting in shock on the couch and then she told me and I called you" Maria said still panicking as Val tried to calm her down as best as she could. Zara is the sweetest little girl who would want to kidnap her like that?

"Please just find my little girl" Maria said begging Val as she cried in the phone.

"I will don't worry. I will do everything I can until she's back your arms again I promise" Val said as Maria thanked her when she was about to hang up as Maria said another thing.

"If those who took her are enemies of Nick, then you could be in danger too since you're his partner. Please take someone with you that isn't Nick and be careful" Maria said hanging up the phone as Valentina closed her note book when Nick came over to her.

"Everything okay? You seem stressed" Nick asked as he went over to Valentina.

"Nick we need to talk it's an emergency" Valentina said taking him into one of the interrogation rooms and asked him to sit down.

"What's going on?" He asked looking concerned now.

"Maria just called me and said that Zara is missing" Valentina sat as Nick got really scared and confused.

"What do you mean she's missing. Are you sure that's what she said?" Nick asked standing up running his hands through his hair.

"Nick she told me that she dropped Zara of at your abuelita this morning and when she came to pick her up 10 minutes ago she was nowhere to be found and abuelita was sitting in shock on the couch" Valentina said going over to calm Nick down as she could feel his frustration.

"We have to go find her now" Nick about to storm out the door when Valentina stopped him.

"Nick listen to me. I promised Maria that I would take care of this and I promise you that I will do everything in my power to get her back. Now I want you to go and take Halstead and Dawson to DCFS so they can with Luna and I will take Carisi with me to search for Zara, okay?" Valentina said looking Nick in the eyes as he just nodded his head at her knowing that he could trust every word she said. She love Zara as if she was her own daughter.

The two of them walked out in the bullpen again as everyone looked concerned and Olivia came up to Nick asking if everything was okay.

"Carisi come with me. Nick's daughter Zara has just been reported missing by Maria. I promised her that I would take care of this and bring back Zara and Nick will continue to work with Halstead and Dawson about the case of Luna" Valentina said as Olivia spoke up.

"Okay Val you go and get Zara back and I want you to take Carisi with you. Call us when you have any updates" The Sargent said sending the three of them off to search for Zara.

At the home of Nick's abuelita

They walked up the stairs and knocked on the door as Maria opened up getting thankful for seeing Valentina.

"Thank god you're here Valentina" Maria said hugging her as her and Carisi walked in.

"Abuelita i need you to tell me what happened, okay?" Valentina asked abuelita trying to calm her down.

"Zara was in the living room playing by herself and I went to the bathroom for a short moment and while I was in there i heard her scream and when I came back out she was gone and the backdoor was open" Abuelita said as she continued to shakily explain to Valentina what happened the moment Zara was taken.
