I'm standing in my room staring at the blank walls and stacked boxes. I can't believe I'm moving away.

My best-friend, Lyla, says I'm lucky. We live in the shitty part of Detroit.

The part where everywhere you look there are abandoned homes and graffiti covering stop signs and people living homeless on the side of the road.

My mom recently got a huge promotion. So we'll be leaving Michigan and going to Florida.

Some city called Apalachicola, yeah, try saying that five times fast.

"Mia! Let's go honey! We need to leave now if we want to beat the rental truck!" I sigh, I know how it sounds, but I really am happy for my mom.

I'm just sad to leave my life in Detroit behind. I don't mind leaving the place, obviously, but I do care about the people I'll be leaving behind.

God I'm going to miss Lyla. So much.

I walk out of my old room, taking one last look before closing the door behind me.

My moms already in the car, she's putting the directions in the GPS on her phone when I get in.

I inhale a deep breath and close my eyes, she grabs my hand, giving it a quick squeeze and I give her a hopeful smile.

She knows it's hard for me. My best-friend is all I have.

She puts the keys in the ignition and backs out of the driveway.

Apalachicola, here we come.

Woohoo! First chapter is complete. This is super short, just an introduction to the story. The others will be longer, I promise.

I'll try and add at least two chapters each week but if I'm busy I may not be able to.
