Psyche thought nothing of her sister's words at first but soon seeds of doubt started growing. Every day she began to doubt her husband more and more, Why does my husband only come home at night? Why can I never see his face?
A whole month had passed since her sister's visit, and every day her doubt grew and grew until she couldn't take it anymore. Perhaps my husband really was a monster. For why else would he hide his appearance from me? Tonight I shall light a candle while he is asleep to see if he truly is a monster. If he is then I shall kill him and if not I will pretend nothing happened
That night when Eros was fast asleep Psyche lit a candle and walked to her husband's side. There before her eyes was not a monster but instead the most beautiful man she had ever laid eyes upon. Under the glow of the candlelight was a fair-skinned young man with a face as beautiful as an angel, golden strands of hair lay strewn upon the pillow, and fine-toned abs peeked out from under his robes. Psyche was sure anyone who saw Eros's beauty would pass out with a nosebleed. While Psyche was admiring her husband, wax from the candle she had lit dripped down onto his back.
Pain seared across Ero's back. Eyes fluttering open Ero's stared up at Psyche. She saw me. Ero's immediately sat up, pushed Psyche back, and leaped out the window. Psyche ran towards her husband hysterically apologizing. Ero flew up into the sky and whispered one last thing to Psyche before leaving. "Love can not live without trust"
Tears ran down Pysches face and realization hit her, The god of love! she thought. He was my husband and I did not trust him. Psyche wept for 3 days and 3 nights but on the fourth night, she decided that she would do anything to gain her husband's trust back. She would look everywhere for him and she would prove her love to Ero once and for all.
