(Y/N) wasn't the most ideal man.
He wasn't athletic or strong, nor did he possess any special skills that made him inherently interesting. He wasn't too proficient in anything, and neither did he have any defining features that made him different or even slightly more intriguing than the rest of the people you'd meet on the streets. However, there was one thing about him, one single thing, that was noteworthy, something that was a gleaming part of his character.
(Y/N) was extraordinarily lucky, for better or for worse.
Ever since he was but a young child, walking around the streets of his hometown, he had always possessed an exuberant amount of luck, one that followed him everywhere. Be it finding one-hundred pounds on the ground seven times to narrowly dodging seventeen bullets when a gang attacked him, by flailing his arms, (Y/N) was always surrounded by luck as if he was a magnet for it. No matter what situation he was placed in, no matter where he was, his luck always was able to protect him and defend him from anything, be it Honkai to gang members.
He remembered vividly the time his hometown, a small city off the coast of North America, had been ransacked and destroyed by the Honkai. The children screaming, the parents' wailing, and the distinct smell of smoke and fire entering his lungs and making him cough, all reminded him of the events he witnessed when he was just seven years old. He remembered how terrified he was and how scared he felt when he saw everything take place around him, and, to make matters worse, he ended up being the only survivor, narrowly escaping from being pounced on by a Honkai Beast when he was saved at the last moment by a Valkyrie.
He was very lucky for such a thing to happen, and he was thankful he was able to survive. Nevertheless, the events that followed after that weren't the best, as the orphanage he had been sent to after that disaster was... not the greatest, and he ended up running away after being there for only a few days.
Truly, (Y/N) had had a tough, tough life, full of hardships and disasters unfathomable to some alike; nevertheless, his luck had kept him alive, for the most part, and his personality hadn't withered even after all the things he had witnessed and gone through. He was still the same shy and arguably overly optimistic person he always had been, living his life as carefree as he could, despite the slight impossibility of that due to his duties as a captain. However, he would try, and he'd always go out to the city below the colossal ship that was the Hyperion to find things and get food, meeting new people along the way.
And speaking of finding things, (Y/N) had found something when he was around nine years old that had stuck with him to his day, something that he felt attracted, no, drawn to when he first saw it, and that thing was a golden coin, one that had a small image of kitten's paw on both sides of it. When he first found it, deep within an alleyway from a place he had forgotten, it was glimmering, shining, and glistening within the dark, and the coin itself seemed to reach out to him as he saw it almost looking in his direction, almost as if it knew or recognized him. Furthermore, he felt so attached to the coin itself when he picked it up, even if he had never seen something like it before. Thus, he had always kept the coin somewhere near him, and though he still didn't know why he adored the coin so much, he still loved it all the same.
