At a large farmhouse at Mistral, the Shirogane clan, who are a family of assassins, were living a peaceful life, away from the current conflicts around Remnant. That night, the youngest son, Hikaru, was outside the house observing the stars. His older sister of 2 years, Lunamaria, decided to join him. After which, the two began to talk.

Lunamaria asks Hikaru what he wanted to do in the future. He said he wanted to protect all of Remnant, regardless of the risks involved. This was something even Luna notes was somewhat ambitious. However, Hikaru went and messed with Luna's hair as they returned to the house.

That same night, a demon named Jack Moon was observing the Shirogane, waiting for the precise time to strike. He was tasked by his comrade, Dr. Worm, to kill the clan. Without any hesitation, he entered the farmhouse, and quickly made work of the Shiroganes.

When Hikaru and Luna arrived at the living room, they were both horrified to see both of their parents dead in front of their eyes. Knowing the danger that they placed themselves in, the siblings tried to escape, but were both intercepted by Jack, knocking their Auras in the process. Luna eventually fled, whereas Hikaru was on the cusp of death.

As Jack was about to kill him, Hikaru was able to beat him at his own game. But this led to Jack burning down the farmhouse. Now helpless, Hikaru was about to meet his end, and he almost did so at the hands of Jack Moon. That was, until he encountered the God of Light, who saved him and eventually took him to Domain of Light.

"Where am I?" asked Hikaru. The God of Light then appeared before his very eyes.

"Why hello, Hikaru." Greeted the smiling god. "I am the God of Light."

"Thank you for saving me, but what am I going to do?" lamented Hikaru. "I almost died, and my sister wasn't there to help me."

"Well, I can bring you back to Mistral, but at a cost..."

"And what is it?"

"You will become something...special. Someone who's capable of harnessing the powers of Light. And don't worry, you will discover your Semblance in due time. Do you accept?"

"I do."

"Very well..."

And with that, Hikaru was able to return to the mortal plane safely, but with no home, and being all alone, he was taken into an orphanage in Atlas. This led to him being adopted by the leader of the Happy Huntresses, Robyn Hill. She became the caring and nurturing mother that Hikaru had lost and had taught him how to fight, as well build and repair weapons. The Shirogane massacre led to Hikaru's hatred of the demons he would later come to know as the Jamanga.

12 years later...

Hikaru, now 19, had mostly been doing well for himself. However, the lingering memories of the Shirogane massacre left a scar in his heart, causing him to shun away from other people. The only one who was able to understand his pain was Weiss Schnee, who was part of Team RWBY.

As he returned home, he greeted his mother Robyn with a hug. And to his surprise, Weiss' sister, Winter Schnee, was there.

"Hello, Hikaru. It's been a while." Greeted Winter.

"Hi, Winter." An emotionless Hikaru replied. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I'm just checking up on both you and Robyn. I guess the Happy Huntresses have been laying low ever since Robyn adopted you."

"That's one way to put it..."

As Winter and Hikaru were conversing, the Jamanga began their attack on both Atlas and Mantle. Once the word got out, James Ironwood tasked the entire Atlas Military to battle the emerging threat. When Winter got the order, she immediately left the room. Hikaru then ran after her, wondering what's going on.
