Prologue

Eleanor's Pov:

The cheers of the other students is starting to be a bit deafening as I walked towards the classroom. I looked back at my partner who was following me. He smiled as he slightly nodded confirming that he's just behind me.

The one and only John Martinez-... School heartthrob since 1st year high school. Of course, everyone's going to be cheering for him. His charm amd smile can be irresistible for others after all.

I can't exactly understand why people think he's attractive- he looks alright. Even the teachers agree that he's handsome. But then again, my standards are a bit... Different. After all, the two of us wouldn't be here for the pageant if we weren't qualified.

"Uy nak, sure win na to." Mom said as she smiled at the both of us.

I looked at the side of the lobby. Medyo mainit dito- amp.

"Gora na yan, Eleanor, John. Just give it your best." dagdag ni Kuya Lenard. She's my Mom's former student. Siya makeup artist namin for today since pagod si mama and doesn't wanna do my makeup.

I really should learn how to do my own makeup...

Napatigil ako sa pag muni-muni ko nung biglang lumakas ulit tili ng mga babae dito. Nung lumingon ako, of course, John's heading to the classroom na pala. Everyone's making way for him.

"Tara na." John said as he waved at me to get my attention.

I slightly nodded as I slowly started walking towards him. I'm trying to be careful cause of my heels.

I've been wearing these heels for months- bat ba sobrang madulas ang sahig nila dito-... They're really generous when it comes to floorwax. That's for sure.

Inalalayan ako ni John, he offered his hand so that I wouldn't slip. Of course, I took his hand. I'm here for the extra grades this could give me for my hated subject, not to get injured.

"Your hands are sweaty-" he whispered.

I rolled my eyes then sighed. "Get used to it." I jokingly said.

"Contestants! Sign your name here!!" a teacher said as she placed a paper and a pen on a desk in the middle of the room.

People then started to form a line. John and I kinda got pushed to the back. I guess... It kinda makes sense since it seems as if we're the tallest people around.

After we wrote our names down, all contestants were asked to go outside and sit on the chairs placed as we wait for some of the judges.

"Ate, nauuhaw ka ba? May tubig ako dito." Mama said as she walked towards me.

I shook my head then whispered. "Kami lang pala nila John ang matataas dito noh?"

Medyo napatawa siya as she slightly nodded.

Pfft- so she does agree.

Mom and I giggled quietly. "Okay, male contestants, get ready na." A teacher said. I looked over at John then told him to get up already.

"Kerri?" I asked John. He chuckled as he nodded. "Kerri!" he replied then headed inside the classroom. Mom and Kuya Lenard followed him but just stood near the door, along with John's Mom to cheer for him as well.

I just sat there, outside, waiting for the teacher to inform us that it's our time to go inside.

A few minutes passed, I took a peek at the classroom window. All of them are in front of the judges.

"Uy, gwapo si contestant #1." I looked over to who said that then saw mom beside me handing over a bottled water.

I took a sip as Kuya Lenard was retouching my make up.

Bat ba kasi ang init dito-...

"Truth, mataas tas moreno siya ma'am." Sabi ni Kuya Lenard.

"Tingnan mo ate oh. Matangos rin ang ilong, jusko." mom said as she pointed out the boy they were talking about. I took a peak through the window again then saw who they were talking about.

Huh...

I slightly raised my eyebrow before sitting down again then drank my water again. I lightly flipped my hair then started thinking about how big my grades will be if I win.

One thing's for sure. John and I will win this.
